mk2_craig Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Searching for an old post, the forum is telling me the topic does not exist. I notice there are now only nine pages of threads in General Chat. Has the fat been trimmed or is this a temporary "glitch" ?
Mr H Sceptre Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 A-ha, yes, well spotted. The elusive Blakey warned myself & Mr E Leyland that Autoshite was getting extremely close to breaking point (for want of a technical term), so he had to purge some of the older threads on the forum. Apologies for not letting you know, but we didn't realise until yesterday morning.I guess its just the same as driving your Marina Estate down the M5 on your holidays & you can only get 45mph out of it - you've got to throw out half of your luggage & ditch the roofrack to restore her to her former glory - ie 60mph tops. Or something like that.
retrogeezer Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Oh.....all those wonderful spots that would have disappeared Can we have a warning next time so we can save the photos? Will start to do that anyway.
Mr H Sceptre Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Yes, will try to give you prior warning in future. Also, m'colleague Mr Leyland is hoping to teach himself how to do more teccy stuff so we will rely less on Blakey & therefore have more control over things like this.
MrRegieRitmo Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 So all those past topics are lost for all time? :(Edit: and Craig you appear to have lost your Leicestershite thread, hope you have a backup of your spots? I can't bring up your Channel Island one either. Fortunately every picture I've ever posted or saved is either sitting in my very large photobucket account or on my PC!
Electric Leyland Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 I cannot believe this has hapenned chaps. Was not our doing. Am in talks with the site technician to see if there's any hope of getting the stuff back. I am almot in tears here. This is not good at all.
mk2_craig Posted January 15, 2008 Author Posted January 15, 2008 Craig you appear to have lost your Leicestershite thread, hope you have a backup of your spots? I can't bring up your Channel Island one either. Fortunately every picture I've ever posted or saved is either sitting in my very large photobucket account or on my PC! Fear not Rich for I have copies of every single photo I took of rubbish old vehicles in and around the fine city of Leicescescester. Unfortunately what I haven't got is a record of the informative comments received in response to the pictures from members of this board, which is a shame seeing as some of them were hilarious.I had been meaning to set up my own spots website like Datsuncherry's so as if the worst happened I could still provide a link to the pics. Perhaps there is an Autoshite forum back-up on a server somewhere?
chester drawers Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Bit miffed too. I've rather neglected my threads lately but there's a huge amount of shite here just waiting to get uploaded
MrRegieRitmo Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 I had been meaning to set up my own spots website like Datsuncherry's so as if the worst happened I could still provide a link to the pics. That sounds like a good idea, if I had any clue how! It still wouldn't restore those irreplaceable comments though.
Electric Leyland Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Chaps please don't get disheartened just yet, we are doing our best to get the old forum topics restored, there is still hope. My own entire Spotting thread is in there too! More news as it develops.
michiel Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Hope you can 'find' it back, somewhere in cyberspace.I've put links to my photo collections in my sig, although these are rather messy, unorganised heaps of pics, spots, old archive stuff etc. I hope to set up a good flickr account soon, when I finally scan my brochures, old mags etc.
Electric Leyland Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Early signs of data retrieval are looking quite hopeful. Also we are iminently buying a great big fat arse external hardrive for storing backups onto because of this.More as it develops.
Baz Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Bum....That'll learn me for neglecting my spotting thread!
KruJoe Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 Bad news indeed. I really enjoy searching for some random word and reading the threads that come up. Fingers crossed for getting it all back.
keef Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 http://web.archive.org/web/200701271224 ... com/forum/ ?
MrRegieRitmo Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 http://web.archive.org/web/20070127122433/http://www.autoshite.com/forum/ ?Eh up what's that then?
Richard Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 It's the Wayback Machine. You can put any web address into it into it and look at previous versions of the page. You can even see websites that no longer exist. Some sites are more complete than others.
MrRegieRitmo Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 Well it said the actual board didn't exist which kinda defeats the object surely?
Mr H Sceptre Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 Dammit. I get the following error message when going on that link:"Not in Archive. The page you requested has not been archived. If the page is still available on the Internet, we will begin archiving it during our next crawl. Try another request or click here to search for all pages on login.php?sid=9dfd16d6b8e50238d6afeabd18f5d380/"So near but so far.....
MrRegieRitmo Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 This is intriguing! The board now only has 9 pages of threads going back to Oct 07 - yes? But if I click on my name (or my profile button) & then click on 'find all posts made by MrRegieRitmo' or words to that effect I get 74 pages of threads going back to Sep 06 which is around the time I first started posting. So what I'm saying is, although I'm undoubtedly missing posts, in light of this, I can't have lost very many! I guess it's another form of archiving? Anyway, do you also fair alot better if you click your 'find all posts made by......' link? Fingers crossed.
Mr_Bo11ox Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 Is Krujoe's thread still on here? I cant remember what it was called. I hope that ones not lost.
MrRegieRitmo Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 Is Krujoe's thread still on here? I cant remember what it was called. I hope that ones not lost.http://autoshite.commlm/forum/viewtopic.php?p=30178&highlight=#30178Oriental Offerings....KruJoe has made 169 posts & when I click to find all the posts he's made I get 169 results. In other words KruJoe is one of the lucky ones, he's lost absolutely nothing! Having been positive about it last night, I've just worked out however, that I've lost 1430 posts! (only 1102 remain)
