C reg MK 3 Granada dilema

Is it a 1.8L? I'd love to try a Granada 1.8L, with no PAS - I can imagine it being a fairly miserable thing to drive.

Sadly no PAS is quite common on all early 4 cylinder Granadas, even Ghia models IIRC.

I think Pintos (especially the 2.0 ones) are regularly purloined for old skool fords and stock cars/bangers etc. 2.0 ones with the 205 block are worth pretty serious coin now I believe.

Glad you reminded me, I have left one of those out in me storage, even with a dropped valve it's worth a ton, must put it away!

The 1.8 Pinto is worthless. Until these, Pintoids were short stroke/big bore with a short block. The 1.8 was a tall block, long (2.0) stroke small bore and the bores were siamesed into two pairs to match the small port cylinder head used. It was designed for low revving torque and economy and the block is useless for anything other than a 1.8. The 1.6 Emax was a 1.8 with an even smaller bore iirc. Horrid. With Zetecs being worth so little, i don't see the appeal in a boat anchor like a Pinto. You can get mega power from them, but you can get mega power from a Beetle engine as well and it costs a fucking fortune in both cases.

Well the appeal to me is it's a standard engine in a Mk2 transit, and a 2.1 drops straight in. The one I was talking about is a 2.05, which is favourite for boring out.

Was the 1.8 Pinto the same one fitted to some Sierras which used to smoke their tits off?

The 2.0 Pinto is the standard engine for several classes of stock car.

Most, if not all, 1.8 Sierras had a CVH engine, which is why they smoked their tits off.

Not so. The original 1.8 Sierra used the Emax 1800 Pinto and they came out in late 1984 on the B. The CVH replaced it in '88-89, at the same time as the I4 replaced the 2.0 Pinto. The 1.8 CVH was utter shite and suffered terrible piston ring wear, as did the 1600 CVH.

I had an E-reg sierra 1.8 estate with the pinto 'engine', it was only about 8 years old at the time but the sills were rotten as a mutha, what a POS that was. bought it out the auction in Gateshead, sold to some punter via the trader for a barely measureable profit.

Hey thats interesting, the chod brown automatic thats sat on my parents drive all summer long is fitted with one of those, I've somewhat lost interest in it since it decided to empty its brake fluid bladder and I'm wondering whether its worth lobbing on Ebay + chucking on a boat to Portsmouth. Anybody here fancy a Chestnut metallic 2.0GL?
