If you aren't keen on interfering with the airbag I can tell you that you don't have to remove the steering wheel to get the clocks out. A bit of wrestling with the steering cowl but it can be done fairly easily.

 

It's not hard to remove the airbag though, there are two torx screws accessed through the back of the wheel. When you unplug it you should make sure you aren't charged with static and stand outside the car when you disconnect. It's highly unlikely to go off but it pays to take care.

So, the Xantia has been with me for a week and now and I've only good things to say about it. Done 300 miles in it so far, fuel economy has been surprisingly acceptable. Ride is smooth, steering light and the auto gear change is spot-on. Only fly in the ointment is still the lazy fuel gauge and some peeling lacquer on the roof. Otherwise, £350 well spent I think!
