Ok, LAND ROVER FOR SALE £500 Take it away!!

My landlady is thinking about selling her Landy soon - MOT and Tax are due and it's been sat for a while now. Our plan was to put a new battery in it, get it started, blow the cobwebs away and then put it to rights for MOT. However time as usual has passed quickly and we haven't got round to it. Some landscape gardener guy called today apparently and asked her if she'd sell it - just wants the engine apparently.

My question - how much d'ye think it's worth? M.O.T. is due next month, and it does need TLC - 2 new doors (or maybe some artful riveting) and a full service at least.

I think she's quite keen to sell it - quick money, gone from the road, and summat less to worry about....

Clean inside and in need of a good wash. I think we're gonna MOT it.

Offers anyone?

Amazing what a couple of hours with a bucket of soapy water and a hose will do eh? (fnarr fnarr etc)

So am trying to talk Ms Landlady out of selling it now - it's way too fun a vehicle!

£500 absolute min. I'd say that if you bunged it on eBay, with a smidge of road legality left it would still make 4 figures.

200 Tdi I take it? Good engine, it doesn't need doors. Gaffa tape will sort that bubbling. Mine are worse, and they're 39 years young. Make certain it's cheap. If you want it checking over I can come down if you throw diesel in my tank...............Bulkhead feet are quite fragile on these, footwells, chassis outriggers etc, If it has corrosion on the rear crossmember, take the towball off for the test......(towbars are now corrosion checked, that includes the mountings) It might squeak through if steam cleaned!Let me know if you want me to stick me nose over it. Only 40 miles or so each way.

Cheers Albert - unfortunately we won't be buying it - too skint! No, the craic is that she's thinking of selling it to this guy that called round - how much should she say it's worth?

Posted

Well it's still worth shitloads more with a year's test..........if the guy wants just the engine, he needs to take the lot. TBH, as it has the higher manifolds and turbo, and probably the short bellhousing box also, it's worth at least £750 as it sits.................NO LESS! Discos in this condition go for around that, and they have the wrong box for conversion into Land Rovers, and the manifolds hit the chassis rails on series, so this is a ripe plump fruit, rarer than an eBay rare thing.

They are great, but not as runarounds. I don't know how people use these daily, especially the 'agricultural clutch' older variants. Many people fall in love the moment they drive them though, I loved messing round in the work's pair.

Any pics of your landlady?

Runaround? Yes for sure - I had a lush day today firin' about Notts in it. Fell in love the moment I drove it? Yes.Now need a couple of grand to purchase it. :(

Would it pass an mot with a passenger door that's so fucked it shouldn't be opened (we're only using the driver door for all passengers...)

Surely the door is repairable? Get the riveter and gaffer tape out.....

I see why she wants rid - damn hard seats have given her arse ache by the looks.

I use mine daily. Leaf sprung (Military HD 1 Ton suspension) NO power steering, crossplies, drum brakes, It's not the handful you think it is.Yes, the front passenger door needs to open and close, if it opens onto seats..............thought............remove the two passenger seats and belts..........check with your local testing station first............they might refuse. I would consider it, but only after consulting the book, it might require the handle removing, to prevent it then being a door, but instead a side panel with a window..............NO?

I like your thinking Mr Ross. Just how bad can this door be though? Is this class4 or class7?

Mine is older than Albert's but less macho - my springs move and I have radial tyres  The only ones that are awful are those that are completely shagged out or have been spazzed up by idiot owners. I drive mine absolutely everywhere and it's great. The clutch is lighter than a new one as well. Oh yeah don't pay two grand for that one. You would be able to get the same model but five or six years newer with a quieter engine and a nicer gearbox, discs all round and less rot. It's worth £1500 tops with a MOT on it IMHO and the chassis rot even worse than the older Series IIIs. I had a nice V8 one, G reg and it was rotten as a pear, the H plate at work was the same.

Okay folks - it failed it's MOT, and has but days of tax left. An absolute horse of an engine! But sadly way too much welding needed and neither Ms Landlady or Mr Hoker can do it.Anyone?PM me for a number or more details.

Uploading the fail sheet now mate. Pics to come.Gonna sell the bull bar separately and probably the brand new spare too, but if they're required I'm sure we can come to agreement!

I get the distinct impression that the mot dude was fairly over zealous, but nonetheless, obviously needs a weldathon.....

See what yez think anyway..

Oh for farks sake, why do these opportunities always present themselves when I am potless.

500 spoods sounds cheap enough and i bet you'd get more than that on the bay, but I can imagine that easily turning into 6 months of work and a four-figure sum expenditure on a new chassis.

Last time I saw a 3 page fail sheet (on a Mk1 transit) I took it to my own MOT test and it failed on 4 genuine things. Rust is relative.

Posted
:lol: And the Mk2 transit! What I meant is what's a total nightmare to one tester is acceptable to another. Not like having no headlights, either you have or you haven't.

I reckon I could find this a home, can you PM me a phone number please??My old 110 was more rotten than that. I think the steel they used in the late 80s/early 90s must have been much worse than what went before/since.

Sorry guys - sold this very evening to Mr Nottinghamphil and his friend.I gotta tell yez, I love doing all motoring business through this site. There's an implicit trust that just isn't evident in other quarters. The guys turned up, we had a good ole chat, and everything was arranged and done in a strictly friendly and easy going manner. All parties pleased and satisfied.Good times! So, anybody want either a chrome A bar (with spots fitted), or a steely with a BRAND NEW UNUSED Good Year tyre on for a Landy Defender 110? The guys didn't need them, so I'm gonna try and get more cashback for Ms Landlady...Gonna bosh them on ebay like, but tradition dictates that you guys make an offer first.Cheers all!Motoring's pricey and dicey enough these days. Awesome that we can make it more fun....
