AXrescuer Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 Can someone please help me before I go mental!!!I am trying to remove the oil pressure relief valve from my Astra (Ecotec C18XEL). I've managed to get the plug, washer and spring out but the piston is stuck fast. Any ideas how I can get the bugger out? I've tried to hook it out as suggested elsewhere but still no go.Anyone?
nigel bickle Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 I used Bluetak, on a pencil end, once....Worked for me.
retrogeezer Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 Magnet? One of those long things with a spring loaded grabber at the end for picking up nuts/bolts etc that you drop into inaccessible places?
Albert Ross Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 Assuming you have oil in the engine, start it up but keep a bowl underneath to catch stuff. Turn it off quick sharp though!
AXrescuer Posted October 15, 2009 Author Posted October 15, 2009 OK guys, tried the blu-tak trick, nothing doing. Can't grab hold of it.Started the engine, bloody thing is still stuck solid! Thanks for the tips though, much appreciated!
OwdChina Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 Last resort this : You need an ark welder, touch tip of welding rod onto stuck plunger so that it fuses to it, then quickly turn welder off. Remove rod holder and yank on welding rod with pliers. Be careful though, SMALL rod, LOW amps.
AXrescuer Posted October 16, 2009 Author Posted October 16, 2009 Did it, finally. Managed to adapt a tent peg puller I had and it did the job admirably! Here's the little bugger that caused the headaches! It's been replaced by a new nylon item and an uprated spring.
