I thought the piston engined variants had names like 818 or 616.

They were...that's a Mazda 121.

Also a 1959 Dodge Kingsway with the original side valve 6 as sold in NZ.

This was originally a taxi. I remember 3 of these lived locally to me, one owned by the Catholic priest and another by my sisters father in law.

That Dodge is amazing! Who thought that combo up?! Surely a low spec V8 would have been easier to keep going down under than a vintage sidevalve!

I did a quick google on the Dodge 6 engine.Produced from 1933 to 1972last used in cars in 1959, then used for other applications eg. generators132 bhp at 3600 rpm218 ft pds torque at 1600 rpmapparently a very reliable and tough engineparts are still available in "off the shelf " in US
