Halfords car check...

Hate to go understandably against the grain on this one at the mo, but just last week my shitester passed its second consecutive free mot at no extra cost with just a few harshish advisory s on a promo at Halfords got with a couple of quid purchases last year with actually really good customer service at the branches.

To say they surpassed my trepidous expectations was an understatement.

So in defence of some of those outlets at the mo they can have their good services to the mechanically un/initiated, and I think Halfords are one of the best of those bunches.

I took my sister's rusty old KA in for an MoT at the Southend branch (it was a Saturday and the only place she could get it in at very short notice). I was expecting the worst, but it passed with two or three fair advisories.

Mind you, I turned up with black hands and scruffy overalls as I'd been working on my Royale that afternoon, so had she taken it in herself, as a young girl who clearly knows nothing about cars, the result may have been different...

The other half took her old Peugeot 206 in for two front tyres at a Halfords auto centre  and before they gave her the car back she was told it’s company policy to take it for a test drive and have a look  under the bonnet so off the Mechanic went in her car

10 minutes later she gets the car back and  jumps in and heads up the road and it’s making a terrible banging crunching noise and she  goes to look under the bonnet and the catch won’t open the bonnet then she looks under the car and someone had undone the wheel cage and put an old round metal  ring from the internal part of a plastic hubcap around the cage which was dragging along the road making the noise.

The funny thing is her car had alloys wheels  and no hubcaps so the metal ring wasn’t even off her car and when I looked at the internal bonnet catch the screws had been undone so I suspect foul play.

She did take pictures of what had been done and sent it to Halfords and they offered a free service or MOT  on the car but no way was the car going back to those crooks so in the end she got half the money back for the tyres.

So it’s no Halfords  auto centre for us anymore .

Shitesters and mot s are a bit of a worrying minefield nowadays has anyone had there car 'impounded ' yet and forced to get there car fixed anywhere yet as I understand the rules are nowadays?
