pogweasel Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 Quick question.... You need to have a horn for the MoT, fine, does it have to be wired to the horn push though? Or can it just be bodged through a switch or sommert??This are serius questchun.
Mash Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 When I put a wood-rimmed wheel on my Triumph I found I couldn't get the horn push to work properly (either that or couldn't be arsed possibly...) so I put a little button on the dash where the old manual washer switch was. It's not the most practical of places but it's within reach and always passes the MoT.
Albert Ross Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 Make certain the switch is marked "Horn". In true Autoshite style, you should use Dymo tape...........
Pillock Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 Yeah, as long as it can't be confused with anything else, and it's a momentary switch, it'll be fine.i.e. don't wire it up to a front foglamp switch that you found in a scrappy and swapped for a switchblank or anything. Most aircooled VWs seem to have some random flick-switch on the dashboard. It's usually for the horn, occasionally the windscreen washers.
Station Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 Make certain the switch is marked "Horn". In true Autoshite style, you should use Dymo tape...........Or masking tape with each end torn off in a point.
HillmanImp Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 I glued a push button on the dash of my GT6 once. You pressed it once to put the horn on and again to switch it off. Surprisingly it passed.
Spiny Norman Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 In my Amazon I've got a Moto-Lita wheel with no horn push in it so the horn is wired to a separate flick switch on the bottom edge of the dash and it passed it's last 2 MOTs like that. The MOT guide only lists the following as reasons for failing a horn...a. the horn control missing, insecure or not readily accessible to the driverNote: Inform the driver if the horn is insecureb. the horn does not functionc. the sound emitted by the horn is not loud enough to be heard by another road userd. a gong, bell, siren or two or more tone horn fitted
Station Posted September 19, 2009 Posted September 19, 2009 I don't know if you'd get away with it now, but 20 odd years ago my Arkley* was fitted with a nice bicycle parp-parp bulb horn attached to the door mirror. We used to have one of those in work. Sometimes it got really, really quiet in the office and someone would give it a squeeze - ooohnn-KOOOOH, and everyone would liven up.
