Almost perfectly good car about to get scrapped

Had the chance to save it today but didnt only because it's not an auto (ongoing missus/baby requirement saga).VW Passatt, light blue, 1999, 11 months MOT, 6 Tax (separate offer if req), zero rust, great bodywork and interior, just needs a bit of valet inside. Everything works except the heater - fine on cold, but smokey when hot so you wouldnt. 312,000 miles and still going very strong. Good mate owner had it as hand-me-down from his faher in law ex-cabbie, as he's getting a newer one tomorrow same deal (free again). I drove it today again and its fine, never let him down in the 18 months he's had it. Anyway, scrappy giving him £150 tomorrow for it. Sitting here thinking shit why havent I saved it. I dont really need it tho and missus cant drive it. Tsk.

Where is it? Because I'll take it if it's nearish.... my mate is in dire need of that sort of thing, but his wife won't look at anything that's not a VW!

Stevenage. Still time to get in touch with him before he scrpaps it tomo if its a deffo. One other thing is a leaky pipe from a bottle at top front of engine, poss gearbox oil? Looks simple to sort but he keeps topping it up.

Why would you scrap a car that had tax and mot and runs perfectly fine?. I've got a Passat and i love it. :D

Sorry Pog he wasnt interested in making the extra effort for no extra quids. I should have flagged this up 24 hours earlier. He's binning it cos he's getting exactly the same again for free with at least 100k less on the clock and in perfect nick. Should have at least punted it on the bay, could have got double that. I should have done it for him even. Ah well next time.

Bid duly placed. In the spirit of fair play I shall not be asking 'HI M8 WOT IS UR BEST PRICE? £10 4 CASH COLECT 2NITE'.

What's the betting it'll end up with a large haircut and get chucked into the nearest auction if one of us doesn't buy it?

Almost certain that it'd end up showing about half its current mileage and getting sold to some unsuspecting (and a bit clueless) punter

Looks good for the money. I would want a working heater though, but that's just me!

Well the blower/heater does blow, it works fine on cold, but on hot it eventually fulls the cockpit with smoke apparently. But technically it does work if you didn't mind that!

not having a go, looks good for the money. It would be a waste if it was scrapped.

Sounds like it's got a leak at the heater matrix, and the smoke is coolant vapour. Nasty! (he says having got a face/lung full of it while bleeding the BX's coolant system recently, as a stream pissed steaight onto the hot exhaust manifold).

Well I bet he's glad he didn't just bin it off, hey. Gutted I couldn't get it for the original asking.

 £460! Nice one, like pog said bet he's glad he made the effort now. Proves all the lazy types wrong that can't be bothered to advertise and deal with the civilians....

Buyer only has history of 1 transaction, but phoned and is coming tomorrow, so deal isn't done quite yet. Also mate had to fend off at least 3 scammers bidding over the price it went for, zero feedback ones from Nigeria and somewhere in Eastern Europe.Otherwise 2 other bidders with excellent feedback were bidding over £400 too, so it does go to show if you make the effort etc etc... I'm also kicking myself not to have originally bought it! But glad he's getting some proper dosh for it.
