If we're on about small capacity, lots of cylinders, how about a Ferrari 208? A 308 for the Italian market with a turbocharged 2-litre V8!Of course, pre-war, there were loads of pint-size sizes, even 1-litre ones.

I stand to be corrected but I'm sure i read somewhere these are also a non interference engine if the cambelt goes

I have read this somewhere as well, but was dubious as to the quality of the source IIRC - either way I'd prefer not to test out that theory!
Absolutely 100% a non interference motor.I work with Mazda KL series engines daily.

Nice motors but why bother with 6 cylinders if it's only two litres ? :?

To give a smoothness a 4-pot can only dream about whilst still being fairly economical not to mention the taxation classes of certain countries with cars over a certain cc.
I like the idea of a small V6 but I doubt it's as smooth as a Honda F-series engine for example. They sound nicer though, obviously.

I've never found Honda F engines particularly smooth as such, I used to work for Honda so drove lots of them also have an Accord at the mo with an F20 in it which I find harsh to be honest.

Eh! It's one of the smoothest 4 pots I've experienced apart from Honda's H23.
