Q&A section:

Q: Hi there, I'm Neil Jones, from Norwich, and after spotting your Trabant on ebay, I wanted to contact you to ask if you would be willing to help with my unusual hobby - I collect expired road tax discs. I began collecting tax discs in 1984, as a lad of eleven, and I am still collecting them now, even though they have ceased being issued. I have nearly a quarter of a million of them - yes, you did read that correctly - and my oldest dates back to 1921, when the discs were first issued, and go right up to 2015. Part of my interest in collecting the discs is to try to get them from as many different makes as possible and Trabants are not represented in my collection as yet! It doesn't matter how old or how recent the discs are, I'd be grateful for ANY discs. Many thanks! Neil Jones Norwich This is me, in 2010, at my old Suffolk address.....    https://www.you tube.com/watch?v=IqVwG7ejvt0

Please stop me...

We've got a 1.4ie (I don't know what the S has that we haven't).  If you go looking at it, check for corrosion at the rear of the spare wheel well and the internal parts of the front wheel arch/wing as viewed from under the bonnet.  It is worth gently pushing any areas of suspect underseal underneath.  Apparently, although it seems completely daft, the floorpan is not galvanised.  If you have a sensitive back, the seats will probably make it worse.  I can survive for about 1.5 hours when driving ours - slightly longer in the passenger seat.  Overall, pleasant enough and trouble free, stacks of room and quite softly sprung.

I love those things.  If I were to ever move to 'Muricuh, a late Roadmaster wagon with fake wood up the sides and perhaps a slightly "enhanced" V8 would be top of the list for a daily.

I could see myself doing that in a civilised country.
