I felt the falling apart Commer streamliner that JM posted on the tat thread deserved its own thread, because reasons. Am I barking mad to think there's a connection between this;

Simply, no, I don't. The ebay thingy is pretty standard practice for the time and doesn't really make any concessions to streamlining. I'd be very surprised if there is any connection.

 

If you like this sort of thing, the Keiselbach volume on buses is required reading but I think it's the most difficult of his books to find these days

Holland Coachcraft were responsible for that Collars laundry van.   They bodied hundreds of similar commercials and coach chassis in this style - one of the latter was immortalised as a Dinky toy.   They were generally used to enhance the advertising power of a vehicle rather than performance gains.  In a 1930s Britain where goods vehicles were limited to 30mph there was little advantage to be had from streamlining!
