r.welfare Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 My mum had one just like that, new! (Albeit on a G-plate).It was godawful, the interior trim (airvents especially) used to come off in your hand, and the edges of the ashtray were soft like plasticine!I think that about the only FWD hatchback that the Samara is dynamically superior to is the Talbot Horizon - so good upgrade!I believe Porsche engineered the fag lighter and the wheelnuts on the Samara, hence the mention of their name in all advertising for it.
Mr Lobster Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 Thats truly awful, but in a good way. Looks loads better without the wheeltrims as well. Hope you like it, nice to see such a tidy one, must be better than the Horizon surely?
Andrew353w Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 Totally excellent! Welcome to the world of eastern European cars! Your Lada looks great for the year and totally suitable for autoshite-REALLY classy! Parts are still widely available for these and you'll get some positive comments from the local newly arrived immigrants, too! If you want a USSR (Unloved Soviet & Socialist Register) car club sticker, get in touch!Andrew353w
nigel bickle Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 Awful-truly awful.Which is marvellous, just marvellous.Sensible 'drop' this time, eh?
MrRegieRitmo Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 What other kind of shite car does that look like? They do kinda look like a stretched Skoda Favorit. They look very alike from the front. Were around about the same time too. Shows how shoddy the Lada must have been though, as the Favorit has survived well in comparison! The saloon is much harder to find & is extra shite & boxy 80s style! Some came with all sorts of tacky bodykits & spoilers no doubt with 0 performance to match!Still loads of Samaras in Malta though (are you surprised?!)
r.welfare Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 I have no basis of figures to back this up, but I reckon Skoda sold loads more Favorits than Lada sold Samaras, which is probably why there's a higher survival rate.Didn't Porsche have some design input on the Favorit as well? Busy time for them on the consultancy side in the mid/late 80s, with the Samara and the Seat Ibiza/Malaga...shite icons, all!
