The door lock might just need lubing, if the resistance is too high the motor probably stops to prevent burning itself out.

Thanks @Hooli, you mean the window? Yeah, I was thinking that might help. I'm going to strip both interior door panels (I need to swap out a speaker anyway) so plenty of ahem, 'lube' will be applied :-)

I was thinking of the central locking, but it might be the same for the window.

I'm pretty sure when I had my XJ40 & one rear door didn't always lock the fix was soak the lock in GT85.

Sticky window - try lubing the channels with silicon spray, I had this trouble on the roffle Jag.

Aaaaaand we have a test pass. Only until Jan '19 as it was overdue and the stupid system just goes from renewal to renewal. However, no reason why it won't pass in Jan '19 also.

Tasks for tomorrow are to sort out a non retracting electric aerial, passenger door lock not locking on the remote and sticky drivers side window.

Here's the one I still kick myself for not buying off my flatmate (when he "upgraded" to a violently turquoise facelifted version).

(That's an earlier photo - it got a new rear bumper and Sovereign spec tail lights with the chrome surrounds soon after we picked it up).

Especially as the guy who did buy it only went and weighed it in after about a month. Both me and the former owner were kicking ourselves.

I'd never normally lower a car, especially a Jag, but this thing did look downright menacing in the rear view mirror! Big exhaust too...not often you hear a straight six howling down the road these days.

Might add, we didn't do anything to fiddle with the suspension or exhaust, we got it like that!

Locking is likely to be lack of lube in the lock mech, I`ve had it on my NSR on the XJR a couple of times. Just give it a jolly good white grease spraying when you have the card off to do the speaker.

Drivers window likely to be an out of adjustment window frame/runner in the door, pinching it as it goes down. There's a good few mm of adjustment on each bolt, so you should be able to dial it out. As someone said, silicone spray on the lower runners helps a bit too, but you shouldn't need it if you adjust it right.

You can get moss/grit build up on the scraper seal at the bottom of the glass as well, this slows it down & can scratch your glass over time, its worth whipping them all off & cleaning them with running water & a nail brush (applies to all cars, especially when they`ve been standing for years).

The wheels in that picture look like X-Type, possibly S-Type to me, which, as far as I know are a substantially different (Ford) stud pattern & centre bore.. I don't think they suit it myself, not deep enough rimmage..

All windows are now opening and closing beautifully.

It was simply a bit of lubing of the channels and sorted.

The passenger door lock took a bit of persistence and lots of lubrication, very happy to say that it now is working on the remote. Very happy boy.

It was getting dark by the time I started faffing about with the aerial so that's a task for another day.

As it turns out, I've kinda fallen for the original wheels and have pretty much decided that unless I find a set of OEM xjr6 wheels, these will be staying. Thanks for the info though!

As luck would have it, another 3.2 sport showed up for sale about two hours away. It was too cheap to say no.

At €300 it would have been rude to not chance it. While a non runner, it's going to supply parts for mine & two other jaguar licker mates.

Pretty much everything I need is on it.

Saturday is set aside for a bit of stripping ;-)

Tough week this week, Saturday can't come soon enough.

Looking forward to hangin with me mates (well, we are all old blokes but feel like teenagers), talking shite and doing car stuff.

I've just realised that I can salvage the front bumper off this too. Mine has peeling on it, this one's perfect.

Interestingly, the roof on this one has the paint 'crazing' also. I wonder if it's something that happens to them?

We are planning to swap the broken bits back onto this car to keep it as complete as possible - even get it running, as it's so much easier having a complete car to sell, or even move around.

Lacquer peel and crazing seem quite the order of business on these unfortunately. I've seen it a good few times already. Seems like they don't like to sit in the direct sunshine.

Spirits have been consumed, so this may not be as coherent as I'd like.

A most excellent day spent with a couple of fellow Jag Lickers. Today was salvage day with our parts car.

We all had lists and it started like this -

Mine is the one in front. I think.

So, first thing was to remove the front bumper. Very simple task, two bolts, remove under tray and that's it.

post-19903-0-74187600-1538865681_thumb.jpeg

All I needed from this was the drivers side indicator. My mates needed other bits.

Then the stereo. While I haven't fitted the one I removed to mine yet, I'm hoping to find some time to do it tomorrow in my driveway, I'm guessing it's just the reverse of how I removed it.

post-19903-0-13883600-1538865810_thumb.jpeg

Once you carefully remove all the surrounding trim, there's screws holding the air con control unit and stereo all in one, then remove and unplug.

My passenger door speaker was fucked. Which is quite annoying as the stereo is rather good otherwise. So a bit fiddly to remove the door panel first.

post-19903-0-08630600-1538866064_thumb.jpeg

Then remove the speaker from the door panel.

post-19903-0-70857200-1538866112_thumb.jpeg

Unfortunately, the spare, one is also fucked, so I'll have to source another one.

Next task was removing the drivers seat. These are heavy, especially when loaded with electrics. The view from the back seat post removal was rather cool.

Then time for coffee and chat.

Take in the scenery..

These posts are only a summary of the days events. Suffice to say that this car will be providing parts for all of us for a long time.

A great day following a very busy week. Hopefully more updates soon.
