Vince70 Posted June 30, 2018 Posted June 30, 2018 I’ve just had a call from my brother that his 2004 Bini One has just started making a rattling noise from standstill.I couldn’t make it out from the other end of the phone but I asked if it’s been run dry of oil coolant etc but he said not but he is on his way over later and asked me to take a look so any suggestions would be helpful.
Vince70 Posted June 30, 2018 Author Posted June 30, 2018 Thanks funny thing It had a new exhaust fitted a couple of weeks ago plus it’s still on his it’s original clutch and flywheel.
Vince70 Posted June 30, 2018 Author Posted June 30, 2018 I just had a look and the sound seems to be coming from the auxiliary belt area and the tensioner seems have an awful lot of movement when the engine is running but I’m not sure it’s supposed to be like that as it doesn’t do it on my old E36.
3VOM Posted June 30, 2018 Posted June 30, 2018 Is it this engine that has a timing chain held in by a my-first-attempt-at-3D-printing piece of plastic? beko1987 1
Vince70 Posted July 1, 2018 Author Posted July 1, 2018 I think that’s the later Peugeot/BMW engine this is the earlier car with the tritec engine.
twosmoke300 Posted July 1, 2018 Posted July 1, 2018 One way clutch seized on the alternator? Vince70 and Christine 2
Vince70 Posted July 3, 2018 Author Posted July 3, 2018 Cheers Twosmoke it was exactly what you said and a new pulley and belt sorted it out. Christine and Parky 2
