Now sorted- MOT'd and working 4/5 door Focus sized car needed

Hi all,

As always seems to be the way, there's an embarrassment of nice cars for sale on here getting no interest when I don't need one, and not much when I do! So posting this wanted thread to try and scare one up in case anyone has something they were thinking of getting rid of.

As posted in my 'Megane' thread, that car, which is my friend's, has developed a water pump fault which we don't think is worth fixing. She can get a bus to work, but it's a pain for her. So she needs another one. We went to look at a MkII Focus 1.6 Ti-VCT today, but it had literally no history (so no idea if the cambelt has ever been changed) and it had clearly had a whack down one side, and the paint was peeling away from the not particularly competent repair, so I didn't think it was worth the £1300 the seller was asking, or even the £1200 he came down to as we walked away.

I had thought that the new Low Emission Zone being introduced in London next year would be coming out far enough to affect her, but it seems not, so although I had been thinking that she'd need a Euro IV compliant Petrol car, it looks like she can get away with an older banger for a while longer. She has £1500 to spend- though for that money I'm of the opinion that she should be expecting a car that's at least not poorly crash repaired and has some indication of how long she's got to play cambelt roulette! If she's spending <£500, then obviously she/I would have considerably lower expectations. Needs to be MOT'd and running though, obviously.

So if anyone has something that sounds suitable, LMK. Anything late 90s onwards considered. In the meantime she's going to see if she can insure the ex-Bub-roffle Fiesta which I still haven't got round to selling, just so she can get to work, so that would take the time pressure off a bit. For a decent car from a Trusted Shiter I would be quite happy to do an epic Megabus trip to collect, so location isn't a huge concern, I am in SE London for info.

Cheers!

My colleague has a 2002 (I think) Toyota Corolla, it's Silver, has the 1.4 vvti engine and a dented front wing, he's asking £495 ono, It has mot until March 19, 128k on the clock, working aircon and both keys.post-2711-0-93001400-1527855962_thumb.jpgpost-2711-0-39083600-1527855991_thumb.jpgpost-2711-0-64008500-1527856013_thumb.jpg

1.8 mk2 Mondeo, x252 gdc to check MOT history (two tyres and some welding for the last one in April, the advisory for a blowing exhaust was fixed with a 50p sized bit of paste on the downpipe to center section join), about to hit 66,666 on the clock, few minor scuffs - average for age, and one minor bit of grot on the OSR arch.

It just took my gf and I on a 1,500 mile holiday around England, Wales and Scotland where it averaged about 43mpg despite lots of slow traffic on the m4 and lots of Pressing On in Wales and the Borders. I wouldn't hesitate to check tyres and oil (burns none!) then drive the length of the country. Handy that, because I'd deliver it anywhere on the mainland in exchange for a train ticket home... Or even to get that green e39 near Brum. If you wanted to come get it, it's near Berwick upon Tweed (on the a1 and east coast main line) so a proper adventure.

Taking photos this afternoon for Autotrader ad. £850 on there, £700 to a shiter,

Mondeo would be a bit big YOS, she's dented the hell out of the current Megane and I know from having owned a Mk1 myself that visibility out the back of them isn't great.

Corolla sounds interesting Ruff :) .

Edit: off out for the afternoon now, will check back in this evening.

They have now bought a lowish mileage MkII Focus LX with a recent cambelt change (so it must be a Ti-VCT) and a full MOT for £1695 from a dealer. Not sure I could have got them a hugely better deal than that TBH. Certainly couldn't have got them a less risky one!

Ah. Well according to the ad (and ETIS for that matter) it's 115ps. I don't think I've actually seen any non-VCT 1.6s for sale!
