personalsed reg plates

Well said! The Nigel in the programme had spent 80 grand on the plate, WTF! That's still the price of a house in some places!

I'm not keen on private plates myself, All i can ever think of is how another car has lost it's original identity so you can just show your initials or name on your car's number plate.I always think it's sad when you see a old car for sale with a reissued number plate.(No offence intended anyone :D )

The funny thing is, reg plates were always meant to be transferrable. When your car wore out you put the reg on the next one.

It adds a little interest to a car, and obviously provokes seemingly violent reactions to other road users. I'd simply change the plates as I'm not a fan of the current number plate system, the old style suffix and prefix plates look so much better.

If Nigel 1 wants to have NIGEL, then why not; and if N2GEL wants to look a loser and AKR44M a complete prat, then let them.I also doubt if that many classics on the road today have actually lost their numbers and those that have were probably only restored because the sale of the plate funded it. I remember in the 80s going with a friend in Poole to look at a Saab two-stroke, which turned out to be too far gone to restore and also had a nice number (2 figure, 2 letters). It was stored in a large industrial unit along with a vast number of old cars in similar unrestorable condition, all waiting to lose their numbers before being scrapped. My own personal number (3 letters, 3 numbers, no-one's initials or anything) came originally from Bournemouth, so it might co-incidentally have come from there, so there must be a lot of cars around with a similar story.I think it gives the car a bit of individuality, I don't have to remember a new number every time I change my car :) and best of all, it gets right up the nose of those morons who can only judge how good a car is by looking at the number plate to see how old (or rather new) it is. :D

i have got to the stage I can't remember the regs of the recent vans, I now have to refer to the V5 to see where it came from or what it is/colour. When that stops working I am stuffed! I still wouldn't pay 80 grand for a plate I can remember though, or my name. It just smacks of more money than you know what to do with.

Owning a plate is no different to changing alloys, or not owning a silver Focus (or other generic bread and butter car) I have never bothered, Mrs E bought the plate in 95, before she bought the car it was attached too.
