I'm looking around for a replacement for the Megane, looking on the autotrader website at 140,000 mile, £900 Almeras and othe such delights I spotted a 1992 216 GSi, 70,000, FSH... £275.I'm going to take a look later... am I mad?

Not really, they're nice motors! Much rather have one of them than a tired Almera.

Not at that price, Sounds cheap as chips to me!, They aren't a bad car, It was the Head gasket problems that let them down mainly, Oh and rusty dog legs due to the rubber trim that was fitted to the inside lip of the arch, Water would congress there and then rot it out.Hopefully it be the Honda lump instead of the K16, If it is the Honda lump it's a Win from me! 8)

Should be the "backward-spinning" Honda lump. Easy check is to look under the bonnet. If the gearbox is on the driver's side, Honda it is.GSi's of that era should be fairly well specced, eg, multispoke alloys, little boot lip spoiler etc.

216s of that era will be the Honda D16 motor. A top-spec GSi was a favourite of the blue rinsers when new, so hopefully the low mileage and FSH ties in with a low number of owners.Watch for rust around the wheelarches and back end of the sills.Sounds like a good'un though on paper, I'd get in there quick if it turns out to be good as it won't hang around for long at that price.

I HAZ PURCHASED ROVER SHITE...Went to veiw it earlier, better than I expected really... body is tidy apart from some touched in bubbling on the O/S/F arch and it seems to have lost it's boot spoiler, under bonnet is clean but not 'just steam cleaned clean', inside needs a vac out and tidy up.Drives nice and pulls well, no smoke or funny noises. Driver's leccy window is U/S, motor works so hopefuly an easy fix. Needs a tyre, spare has good tread but is flat, so touch wood a fiver pucture repair will see it right.Chap selling it trades from home, the 'FSH' turned out to be some stamps in the book and hand written notes by the previous owner, and the numbers on the odometer are all out of line (tho' TBH I can't see anyone going to the bother of clocking a 17 year old Rover). Previous owner was a retired mechanic apparently, and it does have the feel off an old giffer's motor. Will probably pick it up tommorow night, pictures will of course follow. Now where did I put that flask and tartan rug...? :D

Nice one, bud! The numbers on the odometer of my wedge never lined up, and my car was brand new.

It looks a bit weird as I'm running it on a VM under Windows 7 x64. If you use 2000, XP or Vista you'll get fullscreen.

Check ya PMs mate

And if you promise to keep the car for 99 years, I'll send you this polo shirt and tartan rug! (polo shirt is ex-showroom merchandise)
