Right! Who wants piles of old car mags, GRATIS? (ALL GONE)

Mrs W is thinking about a house move so we're in a decluttering mood, and since W Jnr was born I just don't have time to do anything with my old car mags.So if anybody wants 'em, they are free and gratis - however, you need to collect 'em and take the lot - I'd say there's about 500 so it will fill your boot!I haven't catalogued them (and cannot be arsed as they are all in the loft), but from memory there's 2 full sets of Your Classic (1989-94); loadsa Practical Classic (I'd say a pretty full set from Ish 1 in 1980 to say 1984, a fair smattering of late 80s and early 90s ones, most from the "Will Holman" years through to, well, the latest issues); a huge run of Autocar, Motor and What Car? from 1984 to 1998 or so that was donated by AnthonyG; a smattering of earlier (1960s/70s) Motor and Autocars; some Yank stuff; and a load of Car Mechanics and Practical Motorist from the early 60s to the present day.As I say, I want them all gone to a good home, so I thought I'd offer 'em here first - collection from near Newbury (about 10 minutes from M4 Junction 13); I'll even offer a cup of tea (which both Spottedlaurel and AnthonyG have drunk before and are still alive) and maybe some biccies.Otherwise it's off to Freecycle or the local dump I'm afraid...

Hmm, I R supposed to be clearing out too, but that is super tempting.

There may even be some "goldmine" items in there like early issues of PPC - not Issue 1 tho, I managed to flag that on the Bay a couple of years back for £25 :lol:Guaranteed hours of quality "throne reading" material right here...I'm slimming down to recent Car Mechanics and, of course, my treasured full set of Jalopy, the only two issues of Original Tin ever released, plus selected 70s issues of CAR and Wheels...

i'd take the whole lot if i wasnt in france

Wouldn't mind those early what cars and 70's autocars. You're Newbury way aren't you? Can travel. (as opposed to you bring them to my house, with a smile and no tea)

Reallyloud - yep, not far from Newbury. The What Cars are not as early as the Autocars/Motors, if you see what I mean - some of the Autocars and Motors go way back to the late 60s, but the What Cars go from 1984 or so to the mid-90s.If I get a chance on Sunday I'll see if I can sort them into a separate pile/box. Could possibly get them down to Southampton for the cost of diesel and back. Prefer to offload 'em all in one hit mind  RENOMAD - sorry, I just don't have the time to go through them all to find which have Renault road tests. If I did, I'd be bunging them on eBay in batches, which is what I used to do before the baby came along and we had to turn my magazine storage room into a nursery.

Seth, if Reallyloud doesn't take all the 60s/70s stuff (there's a lot of Practical Motorist/Car Mechanics from that era that he hasn't shown an interest in, so far) I will let you know...Also, there's a complete set of AA "On The Road" magazines (140 of them, I think, about 50% in binders!) going begging from 1979 to 1981. About half of those feature detailed road tests of contemporary chod - Solara, Avenger, Granada, Cortina, Escort Mk3, Strada, Princess, Rover 2600 are the ones I can think of, off the top of my head. Plus if you ever wanted a pictoral guide of how to strip a Citroen GS cylinder head (for example), these are the mags for you...Also a number of Haynes manuals that I would be willing to post (if anyone wants to pay cost of postage) - Volvo 240, 740, Sierra 4-cylinder, Vauxhall Omega, Rover 820/825/827, Mk2 Polo, that sort of thing.

Update - Reallyloud is collecting the What Cars and 70's Autocars later today; 25V6Turbo has approached me with an interest in the remaining Autocars; and Carlo has said that he can't get here until the 11th of July, but may take the remainder. So - I will begin the long process of getting these down from the loft and storing them in the garage (don't worry, it's leak-free) until the 11th; so everything (apart from the ones Reallyloud is coming to get today) is still available until collected/arrangements made for delivery.25V6Turbo's batch (once agreed) will be delivered to somewhere in Surrey by myself, so if anyone else in that general locale (Seth?) wants anything, then I can load up some more and make a multi-drop - everyone wins that way, as my diesel costs can be split more than one way...After the 11th, what's left will be loaded into the back of the 405 and taken up to the recycling centre, sadly. When getting Reallyloud's batch out of the loft last night I had a better look at what's there. Estimates as follows, not including what he's reserved:- 100 or so Autocar & Motors from 1988 to 1997 or so;- 100 or so Practical Classic from Issue 1 (1980) through to late '82, complete; then some from 83 & 84, some later 80s ones then pretty much a full set from 98 through to about 2004;- I think 2 full runs (there or thereabouts) of Your Classic, 1989 to 1994, say 80 mags or so;- A load of Thoroughbred & Classic Car, Classic & Sportscar and Old Motor ranging from about 1975 through to 2000 (say 50 of these);- VW Motoring, VW/Audi Car and Total VW (aircooled bias), early 90s, say 30 of these, some still unopened in their subscription packs;- Car Mechanics and Practical Motorist, ranging from about 1967 through to 1982 (the end of Prac Motor) and then some more CMs from 1989 through 1994, about 50 of these;- A small smattering of other random stuff, mainly early 90s Motor Trends, Road & Track, Car & Driver etc. Also there's the set of "On The Road" as mentioned, plus the Haynes manuals - Sierra 4-cylinder; Granada & Scorpio 85-94; Volvo 240; Volvo 740 & 760; Vauxhall Omega 94-2000; and Mk2 Polo 81-90.I could probably be persuaded to deliver within a 50 mile radius of Newbury on a weekday evening, for cost of diesel (so maximum of a tenner if I drive gently...); for the more Northern 'Shiters I am going to Bradford on the 8th of July for a meeting so could also do something there for the Leeds/Wakefield crowd, perhaps. Otherwise perhaps more local members could hold them?Keep those PM's coming...

VERY sweaty having humped these down from the loft. Each of the Practical Classics etc stacks is about 18ins high, to give you an idea of how many there are!

These pics don't include the ones I have put aside for Reallyloud and 25V6Turbo (Dave, your pile of Autocars is about waist-high...!).

There's about a dozen PPCs and (original run) Retro Cars in the pile on the far right, loads of US mags as well, plus some other bits and pieces. The VW pile contains some gems like the 30th anniversary edition of VW Motoring (nee Safer Motoring).

Thought I had more 70s Car Mechanics and Practical Motorist, but I don't - odd! So the CM pile is mainly 1989-1998, with a few mid-60s ones (for the OMG HERALD DECOKE NOT A35 crowd).

Bathroom trashed ready for refit is, of course, not included!

If the Autocars don't go for whatever reason. I can drop by on Monday and take it all. There is a large space next to the Vicarage bog that needs filling.

25V6Turbo has first dibs on the 84-98 Autocars Your Worship, but at the moment he hasn't got back to me with directions and a contact number for the proposed delivery tomorrow. So, I'll let you know if he doesn't come back to me by CoP tomorrow and we can thrash summat out - if you wanted them during working hours they could be collected from Hook in Hampshire (1min from J5 of the M3) as they are all packed up in boxes in the back of my 405 at the mo.Reallyloud has collected all the What Cars and 70's Autocars, taken some of the Yank staff and left the 70s Motors (about 8-10 of them) - Seth, any interest in the latter + some of the Ye Olde Car Mechanics/Practical Motorist? If not I'll bung 'em in with 25V6Turbo/Reverend's lot.

Only just catching up with this. I'm going to be pretty busy tomorrow so can't really meet up. I have no need for these things you understand  If they can be saved from the crusher/recycle bin and chucked in with someone else's lot for a possible later transfer then great but if not then no worries.

Gutted you live so far, I would of been all over them 70's What Car/Autocar/Motor magazines as well for my collection. At least they are all going to a good home and not the tip.

Seth, if there's any leftovers you could hoover up for me I can collect off you this week (on nights in delightful Northolt  )

Update - all Autocars/Motors going to 25V6Turbo later.Still available (with Carlo as a possible to collect on 11 July) - all the Classic mags, Car Mechanics, VW stuff and Yank stuff. Two weekends to go until they get recycled, chaps...

Aha! A knight in shining (VW) armour has just taken the remainder for the local club. Sorry Carlo. All's well that ends well, although his (heavily lowered) Passat's suspension might not last the drive home...

Just about to email you R when I read the latest post; not to worry glad they went to a worthy home.Amazing the prices bulk magazines do/don't fetch. I remember a whole trailerful of 70s, 80s & 90s Autocars (about 2000) going for 1 PENNY last year on ebay, thet were in bloody Derby though. And then, more recently a complete collection of Autocar from 1971 through to 1995 went for well over £200 - of course these were right on my doorstep!
