Czech Autoshite. Pics now added.

Well, after a 700 mile trip in a very fully loaded (15kg under its limit) 800 quid LWB Transit on an N plate, we made it to Czech. Got the odd bit of Dutch and German autoshite on camera on the way. Some class stuff.

This afternoon I went to visit a mate of mine who works for a bloke who collects 'Old Commie Shite' and he showed me his collection of shite old Eastern Bloc stuff. Wartburgs, Ladas, Polski Fiats, Trabbies and the like. He's even in the process of restoring a shite old CZ scooter. Showed me a comical video of Trabbies being made.

Spotted this afternoon (although I didn't manage to get any pics) were a multitude of old Renault 9s and 11s, a load of old Skodas obviously, a mint old Volga (which I may just bring back with me, time, profit and finding someone who'll want to buy it off me before I bring it back being the issues).

Also found a RHD Midget in nice condition and a RHD Jag S-Type. One of which may be worth bringing back if I can get it for the right money. This is, however, unlikely.

Been offered a really tidy, white, '95 Omega Estate in true poverty spec. Manual, keep-fit windows etc. 2.0 Petrol. Doubt that's worth bringing back though as it costs around 350 quid to get something home. Czech export registration, ferry, fuel, Kraut motorway tolls etc. Unless one of you lot wants a LHD Omega Estate.

I'll take a LHD Omega Estate if you can get it to Canada for 350 quid ;-PGreat photos, always love to see pics from "those eastern places," hotbeds of shite they are.

There are loads of bits of old Commie tat if you know where to look. I'm in a tiny village near to the German and Polish borders and there's a higher percentage of tat here. The new stuff is taking over, though. I was in a scrapyard earlier and it was crammed with late 90s stuff. Mostly crashed but probably 200 cars and nothing interesting there at all.Strange feeling, it's as if the old "mend and maintain" philosophy is being ruined by new car greed. For a lot of people that means 10 year finance. I keep seeing new Superbs with all the toys where there used to be tat.Took a look at a secondhand car place and used car prices are mental. Pug 405d estate for 800 quid, Twingos with serious rot for a grand, A4 cabrio for 8k, half tidy Skoda 1000MB for 50 quid. They don't want any of the old Commie tat, they want AC and toys, even though not many people can fix 'em. Hence the Octavias- workshop manuals and diagnostic stuff in Czech.

350 to drag something home means fuel, ferry (I don't do the tunnel, that means going near London), Czech export documents, Czech insurance (my traders policy doesn't include driving European registered stuff on Mainland Europe, bastards), food, breakdown recovery, giving the car a proper checkover (should that be Czech over?) and all the usual shit that is involved in driving some mental bit of Eastern European tat 1000 miles or so.

It's a Praga. Probably the only one surviving that was fitted from new with a Daimler Benz diesel engine. It's pretty much multi-fuel, almost anything that burns will run fine in it, so it'll be ok to pretty much drain the stove into it!

It was used for training purposes as a mobile rocket launching control unit. It's pretty much perfect.

The one to the left is a Gaz something or other.

I almost forgot to post these... these are my mates Tatra 805. It's done under 7000 km from new. The one I had died to make this one 100%.

It runs, beautifully, but it's being restored as its better to do it now rather than to use it and find faults / break stuff. He's got the bits of three of them to use. It's an ex-runway fire engine. Mechanically blob on, we've had the drop diffs in bits and there's no wear. Beautifully made. I did video it running, but my phone only took a 10 second film. I later realised the settings were all cocked up.

I'll head back in a couple of months to finish it off.

Not my cup of tea, but I bet that Cezeta scooter would fit in the back without too much trouble

Is that luminous snatter*-green thing a 3 pot Wartburg Knight? As a teenager I went with my Ross Brawn-like uncle to check out a brand new one of these buckets which wouldn't run right. My uncle's mate was a franchise holder and this car failed PDI.We ripped out the donkey and commenced disassembly of said 3 banger. With the cranckase off we could see that no. 2 conrod had been HACKSAWED off leaving the piston stuck in the bore. Car duly sent back to the Boxheads.*snatter=snot in Ulster vernacular.

It most certainly is. Although I don't think it was called a Knight in Eastern Yorup. There are still loads of them out there. Some have four stroke VW lumps in, from what I can gather.
