I had a 'new' Octavia as a hire car and I thought it was great - particularly as I had actually requested a supermini!Think it was a 1400 petrol although I didn't notice a lack of go or anything. Very nice interiors.

It's a Toyota so should be bulletproof, but I don't think the modern ones are as foolproof as a 1980s Corolla. Should still be much, much better than a Shitroen though..!

I agree. The one I drove had 177 BHP of diesels and went like fucking stink. It was quicker than my Piazza FFS. I could afford a 2 year old one.Also:1. It had a dead pedal for my clutch foot2. It didn't look flash.3. The stereo did bass without rattling three of the speakers.4. The steering didn't jiggle on the motorway5. The brakes didn't squeal like a stuck pig.Okay, the wheels were too big (17") and the tyres too low profile (45), but that's easily remedied. Still rode better than the C4 though. That isn't hard though. The person of sales had an AW11 as his daily, and showed me a mint 1989 Carina II that they'd got in as a scrappage part ex. He said that flattening it was going to be 'bloody sacrilege'. No pictures sadly.OK, so it was a sales ploy, but a good one.Yeah, they'd get my business actually.
