Because they know the new one is bland & soulless so like most manufacturer's they use the imagery of past glory.

 

The same as they use music from the sales targets teen years.

It was considered a bit of a joke tbh - well, u until it started winning stuff. It would have won the MC in 1968 but was uncharacteristically dry that year and the 911 pipped it. To be beaten by a 200 bhp Porsche 911 is no disgrace really.

 

MINI sales don't need an advertising boost - they're selling very well. Full marks to BMW for giving the old one the nod.
