Parts

Bit of a quandary over parts, I have a pair of front wings for my R14 bought for £20 the pair on eBay a while back, great I thought. Until now anyway.....I've been speaking to a guy who has a stash of parts he wants to move on, agreed a price for the headlights, rear light bases & indicators but was going to give the front wings a miss because I've already got these other ones. He wants around £45 per wing though because they are original Renault parts. Would it be worth my while taking those off him too? He'll let me have the whole lot for £150, I just don't know whether it's absolutely necessary to take the wings as well (for a premium I might add) just because they are originals. Put it this way, will I end up kicking myself further down the track for not having these wings or are they just for perfectionists? What would you do, because £90 is a lot of money to me right now for something I'm not sure I need, but if you think he's actually offering an unmissable deal then I'll go with it?.... (and the wings I've already got will have to be offloaded somewhere!)I said I'd let him know by tonight, as if not, someone else is supposed to be coming along tomorrow to take his whole parts stash off of him (he's coming down from Norfolk - you East Anglians aware of any upcoming autojumbles in your area??)

To be honest reg, if you've got somewhere to put the "other2 wings and stuff, I'd go for it; manys the time I've regretted letting stuff go for various previous motahs, renault 4 wings for example, got offered a pair of those about ten years ago, turned them doown, worth a darn sight more now!!!Capri stuff; went to ford fair about 8 years back, bloke was flogging a Brooklands interior, minty, for about £400.I paid £700 for one last year!!:roll:

If these wings are genuine and the ones you already have aren't you'd be as well to take them and sell on your existing ones. Pattern panels don't always fit properly.

I'd have them to be honest if I were you, especially if the other wings you have are pattern ones. For something rare like that its always worth having a decent stock of parts, especially if you are keeping the car long term.Don't suppose he's got any new R4 panels has he?

I agree. My garage and shed and my dad's garage are full of panels for all my "keeper" cars that I'll probably never ever use but at least I have peace of mind I can just go out of the house and get one if I ever do rather than trawling the world over!

As above, I'd get them. I assume its obvious that they are genuine?I've got loads of bits that I dont need right now, but may be glad I have in future.

buy buy buy :Di always end up with a good stock of car parts for whatever im driving at the time :) always pays to really

If it's a keeper buy them... you might not get the chance of genuine ones again. I've rebuilt my Violet SSS with all genuine panels and they are a joy to work with as everything is a perfect fit. IMO the money saved on pattern wings isn't worth it by the time you've made adjustments here and there and invariably had to fill them too. Even then you're hard pressed to get them looking good.

hi regie still got loads of 14 new stock just waiting for someone to buy !!regarding front wings beware there are 2 types pre 79 and newer difference is indicator position with later wings cutout for lamps on corner cant remember how old your car is though !!!! edit noticed your buying headlamps they too are different 79 v reg onwards

I told him I'll take everything. They're all phase 1 parts, he'd already sold his bits for the phase 2 (mainly to Ireland) which is encouraging as it must mean other cars are out there! My car is a 78 model.Even if the car wasn't a keeper it's always gotta be good to be able to offer it with a stash of parts, should help the price you'd get too.I asked about R4 parts but he hasn't got any.

The seller isn't John at Coopers of Cleckheaton is it? If not, he's got loads of 14 bits - including some genuine mk1 14 wings.I know where there are some genuine exhaust systems :wink: Seriously - I decided years ago, that if didn't buy stuff, someone else might, which is why I took advantage of Renault's offer of R18 front wings for 9 quid each a few years ago - and why my loft now needs reinforcing :!:
