Rover 214 key fob problem

Some of you may remember I won the ex RobT Rover 214 in a roffle. It eventually ended up with my single mum neighbor. Recently she's had to take it to a garage as the immobiliser in the key fob has failed, (their diagnosis), she's not having a go but has said if she can't get it fixed cheap she'll scrap it, which will be a bit of a shame as otherwise it's a good car.

Are there any experts out there with a cheap fix?

Mr_Bo11ox is your man for this one, he knows how to get it done cheaply.  Unfortunately it didn't work for me as I couldn't get a response from the suggested company where others had no issue, so your mileage may vary.

If you know the EKA Code (info on that here: https://www.remotekey.co.uk/rover/rover-eka-code/ ) you can get into the car without spending cash, but it's a short-term fix and a bit of a faff.  It's sort of a manual override to get around the problem you've got.  I used http://www.mgrovercodes.com/eka-codes to get my EKA code.  However, it didn't actually work on my car for some reason, sometimes this is the case apparently.

Some Land Rover specialists do have the kit to do the job, but it won't be cheap, something I found when backed into a corner with this same problem.  It's a normal Rover problem and if there's nothing else wrong with the car it is worth getting it done.  I've not heard of anyone having to have it done twice so it should be a fix-and-forget sort of job.

Cheers Vulg, I'll pass the info on. If she decides to scrap it then I may consider buying it back and doing it myself.

Thanks again.

This guy is your man (real name Paul) : https://www.technozen-electronics.co.uk/

Cheap prices from this electronics wizard and highly regarded on the MG Rover forum (He posts on there as Technozen).

He's based in Brighton and really knows his Rover stuff, especially the electronics side of things.

It'll be the Lucas 5AS fob system : https://www.technozen-electronics.co.uk/mg-rover-5as-alarm-ecu-services/

I've got to get around to whipping my Pektron unit out and sending off to him for a few bits which need doing (no horn, fucked IC; extract the EKA, need a second fob, and want him to enable the front fogs so I can fit these later, and disable the bloody annoying autolocking which kicks in at 5mph)

Ace, thanks for that. Hopefully now I've got some proper info to go on the car can be spared!

Have you tried taking the battery out of the fob and discharging it by pressing the buttons for a while then putting a new one in?

This step seems to be crucial to get it working again. Ask me how I know.

if you have the handbook wallet there should be a keycard which enables you to bypass as mentioned above,i had a 1997 2.0td,with same fault, what i had to do was obtain the immo box and key from a scrapper, the box is located up under the dash on the drivers side,it will have as sticker on with a large letter, think mine was a,you will need to match up part numbers it must have the board from the key.

or you can get an unlocked box of ebay for £95,again remove yours first to compare the numbers
