Same symptoms as a friends Goona 125 Privilege that spat the turbot out, no EML either.

 

Took 4 hours to change including I/C cleanout.

 

Interesting, What had failed on your mates? 

 

I've had a look under the bonnet and there is nothing obviously amiss. Think if the turbo has gone, it'll be curtains for the old dear sadly, as finding another GT 2.0T will be nigh on impossible. Given other faults and because at the end of the day its a worthless car.

The 125bhp engine is almost certainly a 1.9 diesel. Very different setup to yours in layout. The turbo on yours I think are on the back of the block for added awkwardness.

 

The turbos on the 1.9 are renowned for lunching themselves. The turbos on the petrols have seemed to be a lot hardier. Parts wise for the engine, there is also the 2.0t 175bhp in the Megane (not the RenaultSport Megane) that should have many similar parts.

 

If it's not blowing oily smoke, hopefully it's just a split pipe or intercooler.

Yeah, I don't think I've ever seen a turbo fail without either an astonishing noise, or a lot of smoke, or both. If you're describing a normal level of whistle like it's boosting, then the boost is escaping somewhere.

 

When the turbo pipe popped off my Leon there was no warning lights, no odd noise, nothing remarkable other than a total lack of power. Accelerated out of a junction and it pulled, and then just stopped pulling and meandered instead.

The turbo is indeed between the block and bulkhead, there was nothing I could see on the top side amiss, will get it up on a ramp at work next week and see how it looks. 

Not going to write it off just yet, but it's getting close.
