Really Retro & Classic Car Show, Staffs, 20th May

It's very easy to get weary with classic car shows. Cars turn up, too many of them are MGBs or Minors, boredom is had, horrible food is eaten, drive home and ponder the point of life. Not today!

For a start, the Honda Roots folks were on hand. I've shown you this Civic Mk1 before, as we featured it in Retro Japanese. It's still gorgeous, and this time, it has friends!

The other side of the display featured the kei, the super and the ridiculous.

Thighs were rubbed, vigorously. The Monza especially.

Mercury Capri! A-Team van sounded incredible.

Lovely Cavs, and my original parking place before the Honda Roots guys invited me to their stand.

Typical variety.

A highly desirable Italian temptress, and a Lancia.

Some modded stuff. Only included it because it turns out that the chap with the black XJ40 is the one who's bought my Daimler! Gave me a chance to congratulate him and give him directions.

All VOXHALLS

YES!

*EXPLODES* (we're featuring this in Retro Japanese. As a Dream Drive, because it obviously is)

18581488_10155315334483200_3589695786702

V8 powered.

There's some shared heritage there...

Uno Turbo! There was also a facelift one elsewhere, and a Tipo 16v. Amazing.

18519710_10155315334948200_7659180528162

Ital pick-up! And paintwork tragedy.

18555895_10155315335098200_5436712624385

Just some randoms.

18486353_10155315335253200_4155831937074

Truck shite (possibly with dodgy reg action)

18486280_10155315335393200_6840615874752

It's only a friggin' Motocompo! And a second-gen Prelude.

Then it rained. The chap with the umbrella worked at Honda from the 1970s, started the Mk1 Civic club in Japan and helped establish Honda production in the UK. Legend.

Prelude Mk1 was SUPERB and almost caused me to run around in circles saying WIBBLE.

Amazing day. The burgers in the cafe were even half decent, and actually tasted of actual cow! The tea was shit though.

Excellent variety there. Very good to see interest in the older Hondas - back in the '90s when we had the original JAE shows at Billing there were big stands for Datsun and Toyota but no real club presence for Honda beyond the S800. Frustrating, because they were obviously out there (and who knows what was lost because of a perceived lack of interest?).

I know of the 100A. For many years it was owned by a lady called Barbara Lawson, who ended up living relatively local to me. I think it was her only car and at one point I sold her a spare engine. It's looking great, my only minor criticism would be that the wheels should be painted dark grey/black rather than silver behind those distinctive trims. It got sold at a King's Lynn auction back in 2013.

Yes, trims were mentioned. I'd dearly love to speak to Barbara. Do you know if she's still around?
