red5 Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 Brilliant. As I scoured the interior for anything even vaguely posh, my conclusion was that the sunroof was a UK fit and pretty much all that made it a GLS bar stickers. I've got a rear wiper too. LUXURY. I'm now off to fill BOTH my door pockets. Sorry for rubbing it in. Steve79 Posted June 27, 2017 Author Posted June 27, 2017 Be careful your GLS sunroof isn't rusty, or it'll be rainwater filling your GLS door pockets... My 91' 1,3GL has door pockets but no sunroof, thus all of my door pocket detritus and resident spider will remain dry, whilst Dollywobbler will be scooping soggy greenshield stamps out of his
Steve79 Posted July 14, 2017 Author Posted July 14, 2017 After the radiator related shenanigans, the Proton has sat forlornly at the back of the drive way sulking! Now, the tight arse in me has bulked at spending over £100 on a new decent quality rad and not the bog standard plastic and aluminium tat. So did a bit of part comparison and found that the 1.3 Proton Persona rad was the same dimensions with pipe inlet and outlets in roughly the correct locations. Did a bit of evilbaying and found a company called Hereford Radiators (recommend highly) selling just such a rad. It was an old stock Nissen, same as the ones being sold for over £100, for under £40 including a new cap. So, time to set to work Absolute barsteward of a job to even get the fan off as the bolts were pretty much rusted solid. Finally got the fan off and it ain't looking pretty! Yep, it's definitely fooked! It also transpires that the rad isn't quite the same New rad on left. Old rad has mounting brackets spot welded to the sides in two places which will need drilling out and i'll need a new temperature sensor as the old one is too long and too narrow a thread to fit in the new rad. I'm also going to get all new coolant hoses as the old ones are basically toast. That reminds me, must sort that water leak on the jag! They_all_do_that_sir and Lacquer Peel 2
Steve79 Posted September 8, 2017 Author Posted September 8, 2017 Ding Dong the Proton's Gone! After replacing the radiator and coolant pipes on the Proton, i took it out for an extended run. It drove ok, but i came to the realisation that i just prefer driving the Jag and the Saab. Plus i'm going to have a lot more on my plate in around 4-weeks as me and mrsSteve79 are expecting our firstborn! The Proton was always going to be at the back of the list, which seemed a shame. i decided to chuck it on bumtree, evilbay and Autotrader and see what the response was with a vastly inflated selling price. I can thoroughly recommend Autotrader, as its not only free to list under £1000 but it seems to be relatively free from idiots. It sold for a very acceptable price within two days and is now on its way to its new (serial aeroback owner) in Stoke. CGSB and jumpingjehovahs 2
