Renault Scenic 02 plate cambelt question

So going around the M25 today no probs until I hear a clattering sound and panic,my wife and son are very frightened and I managed to quickly put over just past Clacket lane in a layby,The aux belt has shredded 2 ribs and has wrapped around the crank pulley, the remaining 3 ribs where still attached and on the car,i turned it of,then tried to restart after removing what I could of the aux belt including cutting the remaining item free from all pulleys. All I got was a click like a starter motor stuck,so I thought that's its cambelt gone aswell etc,but when I got recovery and had to wait for the next truck to pick us up(M25 back to Devon)I had time to remove more of the belt from the lower crank pulley and then it spun over on the key and I could see the cams moving, didn,t sound great or actually start,so my question is do I have a SLIM chance it can be saved or is it wrecked for sure, damm aux belt kit and cambelt have been done a few years ago with genuine bits and I have a spare aux belt in the boot....

Think my friend said set it up to TDC on No1 piston and see where the rear of the cams are pointing(under the end caps)only MOTed it 2 days ago and filled it to the brim with petrol last night aswell.....

That's exactly what happened to my xantia... And it survived

But it's a 1.9td,and even though I drove it a few yards to safety and clattered something as its more tappy than it was, it's an xud...

You can but try. I'd give it a go before you send it to the bridge. Get it timed up perfectly, new belts, then scream before you turn the key, then you can turn that scream into a happy or sad one depending on what happens

There's a High chance it's made the timing jump with bad consequences associated with such things. Compression test it and keep fingers crossed

If it's a 16v pez, and the belt has slipped, or teeth come off it HAS bent valves. Sorry. You need the tool- lock the crank with the pin and put the bar on the end of the cams to check, but never had one yet where the head hasn't had to come off. Not a bad job to repair though-I quite like these engines now- first one I did years ago really messed with my head with keyless pulleys etc, but this is the norm now.
