hpi_matrix Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 Need to fit an exhaust at the weekend (middle section and back box), I thought the middle section would come with some slits (as the catalogue picture suggests, see below) and id simply slide it on and clamp it up using a U Clamp, however it is just a straight pipe.Do I need to cut some slits myself? And is the U clamp the best method?

Most of the sleeves I can see online wont have enough give in them to fit?

steveo3002 Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 sounds like its the wrong exhaust , will be a bugger to seal properly
hpi_matrix Posted March 16, 2017 Author Posted March 16, 2017 Surely I can cut some slots like this (maybe four instead of two): and fit a clamp like this:
steveo3002 Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 you can cut slots but it wont seal with such a size difference.....unless you can find a clamp like whats posted thats differant sizes each end
gordonbennet Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 Sounds like a weld it together job, might be an idea to cut a good section of the old exhaust off so that can be fitted to the remaining good section normally and cut into the new exhaust a little further down the pipe, if that makes any sense, slip a section over the two for strength and weld it all together, then lash heatproof paint on. Some aftermarkets you don't have much choice, the Landcruiser petrol i sold had a trick centre main box with a pressure opening by pass section built in, no aftermarket available so cheap as chips* from Toyota, so what the lads in the know do is buy the centre box for the Diesel version (shorter overall) then remake one of the ends from the old petrol box so it all fits. Was going to have similar probs with the Outback, again trick rear silencer with by-pass costing ££££, no correct aftermarket alternative, solution visit MIJ at Walsall, cat back stainless £295 all fitted.
