It will be in the in tank pump failing, but as said if you keep above 1/4 tank will be fine*. Mine has been like this since i got it.

Well only spent a £1 at the local petrol station car wash and already looks a lot better

YEP, 2 pumps, one in tank and one on top of the engine. IIRC if it doesn't like having a low amount of fuel in the tank the in tank pump is tired or broken.

75's have a really stupid arrangment in the tank with pipework that goes between the 2 halves of the tank. This does give a lot of trouble when the fuel level is low. I am sure it is a well known fault if you google it, They are a right bastard to fit as well.

Small price to pay though - especially if you picked this car up as a super duper cheap bargain for something like a tenner.
