Sawdustman's shambolic shitbox sagas

At last, I've finally managed to get some spare time and some working space. So i figured I'd start titting about with my small herd of vehicles; what with them all being in various states of disrepair.

So I thought I'd start off with my Stihl Saw. (Worry not shiteists, for there will be reports on a van and an autoshite bike merc 190e in due course.) This hasn't run since before I got it. Nice simple 2-stroke engine WCPGW?

So I took the carb off, gave it a fucking good clean, tidied up the spark plug, gapped it. Bunged it all back together, and what do you know? not even half a can of start ya bastard would awaken it.

It's sat in the corner of the garage now, thinking about what it's done.

So. with an elbow freshly tennissed, and a good night's kip, I set about the next easiest thing; a Honda cg125.

It got put away several years ago cos after I painstakingly replaced the headgasket it started leaking out of the other side of the piston. And the very thought of working on it in my small shed again gave me backache.

So; off with the seat and fuel tank, and out with the oil.

Took the rocker cover off.

Removed the head and pot chamber.

Got out the most important tool of all.

This was a right bastard to get clean.

Nevertheless, got it all cleaned up, fitted a genuine* new Chinese gasket that almost fitted properly and set about putting it all back together.

Bastard.

Whilst trying to knock a dent on the top of the fucked bolt so I could drill it out i noticed it shift a little. I managed to knock it round enough for getting a set of mole grips to bite onto it.

So, maybe my luck is changing i thought. So I made plans to visit the Honda stealership down the road and set about fixing the other side.

Aw for FUCK'S SAKE!!

Undeterred, I re-fitted the carb and set about unsticking the clutch plates.

This didn't go too badly. I cleaned out the centrifugal oil filter as well. Judging by the gunge within I think the last person to see inside this worked in the factory. In Japan. In 1979.

No pictures of inside the filter because hands covered in shit.

I put the crank case back on, then off again, then back on again due to the sodding gear selector fork having fallen off. Then I decided I'd clean out the gauze oil filter on the other side of the engine.

Then this:

Yep, that's a very broken o-ring housing.

The weird thing is, I didn't use brute force or ignorance on any of these fuckups. My best guess is I weakend them all last time i worked on it 7 years ago. either that or it's down to it being 36 year old metal.

With that, I got cleaned up, went to the pub and got plastered.

That old Stihl TS350 probably wants main bearing oil seals, there's a routine to go through to get them to start even when they are being used every day. I've got one that gets used once in a while, got to be the best part of 30 years old now

Minor update time. Progress has been stalled due to my brother selling me a small van with a very good friends and family discount.

Being as he lives where I do i think even LJK Setright would struggle to make up a collection thread for that one. Maybe I'll stick a jerrycan next to it before i post a couple of pics on here.

I'll report more on it when I start fucking about with it in a day or two.

So, the cg125:

I managed to get the parts from a Honda stealership down the road.

It made me wonder why car dealers don't stock parts for decrepit 30something vehicles. Mind you, I did hear once you can still get new wings for a Volvo Amazon from a dealer at great expense.

So having scoffed an egg banjo I set about putting it all back together.

Channeling my inner bomb disposal expert here.

Then I figured out a clever* way of straightening the exhaust header stud.

And by the sheer power of fluke, everything went back together ok. So I put some petrol in the tank, some oil in the crankcase, and on the crankcase, and the floor. Then on the 4th kick it burst into life, for the first time in seven years.

Now I've just got to leave it alone for a couple of weeks whilst my bank account recovers from the beating the purchase/insurance of the aforementioned van gave it.

In other news I've mended my bench. it was rattling like a smackhead. Needed 4 new legs. Maybe I'll give me stihl saw another coat of looking at soon.

PS thanks for the advice DodgeRover.
