Feeling love for Morris Marina

Had a dream about one of these last night where it got nicked. I've been looking at them for the past couple of weeks. Can you still get these cheap? I tend to steer away from 70's/80's British cars because I believe they're of bizarre build quality (excellent and shite at the same time - even my missus' MGF falls in that category).

Wouldn't mind one myself. They're still cheap as they're not quirky enough to attract those who love Allegros.

A survey conducted by Auto Express magazine in August 2006 revealed that just 745 of the 807,000 Marinas sold in Britain are still on the road  fewer than one in a thousand. This made it officially the most-scrapped car to have been sold in Britain over the previous 30 years.

Gasp!

Marinas are terrible to drive 'quickly', thats why they have nothing like the cred of the escort. The front suspension is lifted almost directly from the Morris Minor, which started off with an 800cc engine. The 1300 marina is fun to drive, though not if youre in a hurry. The 1800 ranges from 'grim' to 'deathtrap'. Of course, thats part of their appeal today. I love em!

I never thought the mk1/mk2 Escorts were that good to drive. I had them both as my first cars in the late 90's and they were terrifyingly unpredictable!

I had an early 1300 TC - the front wheel parted company with the car one day and the gouge was visible in the road for years afterwards. IIRC a friends later on had a weird dash where the radio faced away from the driver.

I get the raging horn for Marina's, I mak no secret of that. They are pretty grim to drive though, a bit 'floppy' with dire brakes, and on later ones, horrible far-too-squashy seats that you can fall out of at even the merest hint of a change of direction. Handsome beasts though, I'd like a nice early one with the split grille, preferably in white or beige that really shows off the lines. Then I'd put on some decent wheels off an MGF and boof, seriously cool. And you don't need handling to look cool. Until you crash through a hedge that is....
