Always sad to see some of the savable looking rare motors that end up in these places

I don't understand how that works. How do they 'supply' the car? Isn't that just a conventional scrappy, except they advertise the car on the internet?

Ah.

How do I buy a car from U-Pull-It?In just four easy steps you can buy the right to take parts off of a vehicle at U-Pull-It. You are not buying the vehicle itself – but you are buying the right to take off any part from that vehicle during a 7-hour time frame at our facility.STEP 1: CHOOSE A VEHICLE that has the parts you need from our extensive database.STEP 2: ORDER using your debit or credit card and give us your contact information.STEP 3: PAY for the vehicle by confirming your order.STEP 4: CHOOSE A DATE when you will come and remove the parts.

Yeah basically you give them X amount, then you come to the scrappy and have one full day to remove as much as you want, and they crush the rest

Sounds good ... sort of. Why would you want a complete Astra minus the shell for example?

It may be gorgeous, but it will soon be bean cans/manhole covers! They wont sell complete cars. How does something like that end up binned?

How does something like that end up binned?

Police/d.v.l.a have taken these cars off the road due to no tax/insurance etc and they have to be destroyed. Thats what I read elsewhere anyway

We have some really wasteful rules in this country relating to disposing of cars, perfectly good (and sometimes very rare) stuff must be crushed for no good reason other than the stupid policy of the DVLA/governmentIf tax/insurance is unpaid, then yes you should lose your car. But I dont see why it then has to be scrapped. DVLA should hold auctions of seized cars.. would make them more money/be less wasteful/help the environment. Everybody wins. But that would be too sensible

I've been keeping an eye on the U Pull It site for a week or two as I'm thinking a big pile of Suzuki Alto bits might be useful as it gets older. Anyway....Its part of what was Universal Salvage before it was taken over. The cars are either Cat C write offs or those seized and unclaimed by DVLA. Looks like a good idea to me though, you can strip everything you want off the car without the hassle of having to get it home or dispose of the shell afterwards plus it won't upset the neighbours! At least now with cars that have been seized they allow them to be broken for parts - it used to be the case that they were crushed whole! So at least there is some progress.
