Seicento sporting. OMGpossHGF

Hello all. Today the seicento decided it would loose the contents of the header tank. No drops on the floor, no steam, no nothing. Apart from rough idle on start up and pressure in the header tank over night - oh and a bit of mayo in the oil cap and manifold.

Now I need this like a hole in the head with four cars now not working ( dedra

Major surgery, Passat door not closing, beta silencer blowing. Plus no mot). I have reached the Autoshite level of "novice".

I have stripped the engine down to liberate the head and see what's going on, and I would appreciate the collectives opinion please.

This shows the gasket by the only combustion chamber that had black sooted valves. All the rest were whiteish.

This shows the head in the same spot which how's some erosion of the aluminium is this acceptable? Should I have it repaired. ?

And the last one shows that the timing belt was one tooth out and may account for the low idle once the car is warmed up.

I will check the flatness of the head tomorrow but the erosion is a little concerning.

Thanks

That amount of corrosive wouldn't bother me - if you're really worried, get the head skimmed: if it only takes a couple of thou' to get it flat, have it pressure tested.

Nothing helpful to add, but sympathy for your situation :-(

Is Mrs Dermist giving you That Look?

I did my sons one back in the summer,it had been using water and stuttering / steaming from the exhaust when first started for a while but it was just a local run around and it soldiered on.

Once it was left parked up for a few weeks after he upgraded to a Supra the engine refused to crank over until the plugs were removed so the engine could eject the leaking coolant out of no1 cylinder.

I did a quick check and the head was flat enough but a bit pitted like yours so splashed £40 out on parts and nailed it back together where it then decided to leak from a perished o ring on the water pipe that runs along the block and into the water pump.

Oh i changed the exp cap too as that was no longer holding pressure.

It's since been sold to a couple of Italians and still running well and holding its coolant so i reckon yours will go again no problem.
