Anglevan Posted December 16, 2016 Posted December 16, 2016 As per title, my sons girlfriend has a 54 plate Micra (the bog eyed one)!!It has a fault with the power steering in that it's no longer working and usual warning light, it's a electric column. Now google is not my friend as it has so many conflicting pieces of advise and experts that I'm unsure where to go with this. I can get a replacment coumn no problem but will that fix it - does it need to be coded in?I'm pretty capable to swap the column but electrics I dont like.. Anyone able to asist or no of a good repairer in either Sheffied or Wakefield area?? Any help greatly appreciated.
sierraman Posted December 16, 2016 Posted December 16, 2016 BBA REMAN might be able to fix it. Not sure it'll put the lamp out automatically.
scaryoldcortina Posted December 16, 2016 Posted December 16, 2016 First thing with EPS faults is always to check the battery and alternator - low output or weak battery makes the car turn the power steering off to conserve power. Barry Cade 1
Anglevan Posted December 16, 2016 Author Posted December 16, 2016 Thanks for heads up on the battery ill check that first.
vaughant Posted December 16, 2016 Posted December 16, 2016 IF and this is a guess, it's like a corsa then most likely there's two big cables terminating at the column.I tested it before on my corsa b as it was a non runner, I basically disconnected the cables to it in the big plug, applied 12v to it via a booster pack and the column started moving very lightly, if 12v was disconnected it went stiff (fnarr fnarrr) again. There are a load of other tests you can do with a basic multimeter and I'm sure someone on here could pop round for an hour to help.If I was nearer it would be no problem.
