You wouldn't get this brown-interiored 924 Turbo though...

And for that money they couldn't even find a cigar lighter that still has the symbol on the front of it...

Lol that's a recent dealer restoration, I think they've worked that price out based on covering their Main dealer labour costs to restore. Apparently the fuel tank is the wrong colour too.

This one though, sold recently for £5500:

I've a had a little bit of form with a 996,in my case a Turbo nutter S spec.

I can only echo the sentiments that Junkman has said regarding potential maintenance issues looking after one. The front rads coolant and aircon can be regarded as regular maintenance items if not cleaned out regularly. Drain holes block up easily in the hood bin area which leads to water leaks entering the rear floor area and flooding out the ecu which lives under the n/s back seat. The fuel gauge used to have a mind of its own on occasion too...oh and the plastic header tank split as well...all common 996 maladies.

Id be very surprised though if the replacement engine is suffering from exactly the same symptoms as the first, but that is the risk that you take. Such is the lottery with non Turbo 996 and 997s you could sink 20k in the buying one and still end up with a engine imploding itself. If the milage and overall condition of the car are in good order and it's not Cat c or d..and you can afford to sink 6k in to a potential project that needs perhaps, that again spent on it to get it spot on,you could have a fully sorted car for the price of one which hadn't been gone through with a fine toothed comb. I presume the original engine would also come with it?

With the value of air-cooled cars rising at a rapid rate, values of genuinely tidy 996s have started to firm as people strive to get on to the 911 ladder.

They are great to drive..but it's a case of do you want to go through the potential agony to get to the ecstasy?

I babysat a 2.5 Boxter while it's owner was on remand holiday for six weeks and I was shocked how thirsty it was compared to my own car at the time which was a 3.0 Omega Elite auto.

They're utter dog shit. I drove one and didn't really see the appeal - not that fast, they look like they've got two front ends and they're a bit tacky. They remind of DB7s - everyone says what a gr9 route into fast car ownership is, but in reality they're crap.

Buy a 944 Turbo. They're great.

Or a 944S2 or a 928 or an air-cooled 911 or anything from the good old days when Porsche made proper exclusive sports cars, not humungous saloon cars and SU fucking V's.

You could of course find yourself a Covin Turbon coupe to impress your neighbours..post-20412-0-57836600-1481814911_thumb.jpg

Or that's what the brochure says anyway!
