Lidl air hacksaw and Range Rover Nuts

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Had a look in the week at the Range Rover as MOT due. Front anti -roll bar drop link snapped!

I wondered why it would lean to one side now and again (especially going around roundabouts) - I thought it was the air suspension playing up! This has been going on since I last towed the caravan in August so must have been knackered since then.

Got my air wrench out to undo the drop link nuts as my sockets were turning the thread as well-didn't have an 18mm impact socket.

Thought I'd get out my Lidl air hacksaw-a toothbrush would have been more use.

Finally ground them off with my 4 inch grinder.

Put back in and now all well!

Was going to do the rear brake pads-but took me ages to undo the front nuts and actually broke my breaker bar ( bloody National Tyres). Will leave these till next week.

10 year anniversary soon as well so will treat it to some new oil and a wash (the car not the wife).

Take some joy in the fact I've never found air hacksaws any good on anything more than car body panels . Cheapies or expensive ones they are all crap

Whereas electric reciprocating saws are pretty good for this kind of job, especially when a grinder won't fit in the gap.

Air chisels are fantastic things too, but a bit nerve jangling to use due to the unbearable amount of noise they make even with ear defenders.

Anyone got one of those multi-tool oscillating saw things?  They look great for household DIY, but I can't decide if they'd be any use around cars.

They've just not got the power to go through hardened nuts. You'd go through dozens of grinding discs as the torque isn't there. Sometimes only an Angle Grinder will do.

Multi-tools are great  :-D

But i've yet to find a blade that cuts steel well .Usually an angry grinder is the only way.
