Badly adjusted headlights rant

Last night I drove through Suffolk and Norfolk, and was repeatedly bedazzerlated by horrid SUVs and the like (plus plenty of rear fog light numpties).  To add to the fun, X Type headlights are a bit shiz, and at times I had to brake like a giffer at the onset of traffic because I couldn't see owt.

should be on 0 unless you have a dead prostitute in the boot

You need at least two of them; otherwise the handling goes all to fook.

Yeah, I never understood what's wrong with Sealed Beams.

Ha

Driving at night in my Standard I can only dream about sealed beams. Luckily that only happens once a year at most

They are mucho 70s.  Having said that, the only car that I own that has good headlights is my SD1.

Because the market was being groomed for HID. You have to create a problem before you can market a solution.

The Robo fixed beams on my Amazons were fucking hopeless even when correctly aimed.

I bought and fitted some (sodding dear) Cibie halogens that looked old but had modern reflectors inside. Good compromise.

You can get factory HID lights on an X-type, but they are rare.

Mine has the standard POS spec, but it does help if I CBA to clean them.

I have a question - every now and again I am dazzled by one or other of an oncoming vehicle's headlamps - but not due to it being obviously badly adjusted.  It seems that something in the design of some ordinary halogen lights throws light up/sideways in some cases.  Am I imagining this or has anyone else noticed it?

I think you're catching the sharp edge of the beam where the several colours of the spectrum seem to meet, i think thats worse than getting the full beams in your eyes cos flicker.

My bloody Landcruiser lights are crap, they must have copied some German shit design, sharply cut off beam to the right and straight ahead but rises quickly to the left up into the trees like my poxy German lorry does, any snipers lurking up there will be dazzled good and proper.

I had to fit some of these Osram nightbreaker thingy bulbs (luckily still H4's) cos it was near enough undriveable on the standard bulbs, yet the old LC i had before (and the one before that) the lights of which were clouding up gave a lovely light scatter on standard bulbs.

All moderns etc

at least our lights can be sorted out for the price of a bulb or sealed beam, seeing Cort having to get the bumpers of that CTS to sort out those Xenon things gave me the willies, gawd nose how much these round the corner or LED lights will cost to fix when they give out, hopefully i'll never own one to find out.
