Other Worldly Ownership and Taxation Services - 405???

Thought I'd start me own thread so as not to clog up the FS thread.

As I've been saying lately, this £100 405 1.9D GLX that's available is interesting me quite a bit. (I'm not sensible).

Now then - I'd like to buy it, but as I'm currently job hunting and on a very limited income (and I'm not sure how long for), I can't do a lot past actually buy the thing/sign the V5, and pay the tax. Typically the MOT is about to lapse but I might be able to pay for one if it doesn't fail.

Now, is anyone genuinely interested in taking this on for an unspecified period? Anyone want a free* WBoD? Provide your own insurance and fuel, I'll sign the V5 (unless you want it long term) and tax it for you. Basically, it seems I'm dibsing it for next owner, assuming someone else wants it.

As said elsewhere I'd be happy to keep it in use until you need it, insurance shouldn't be too much hassle given that it's an early-90s naturally aspirated diesel. The only snag is the lack of MoT which, with my complete lack of off-road space may become a problem, so it all depends if it needs much work to get it through.

I can store it off road if that helps which would save the tax and insurance. That way just get day insurance and drive to a prebook mot which may work out cheaper.

Verdict so far is it's undrivable due to the water leak. Waiting to see what it entails, don't want to do Ipswich-North West if I'm going to lunch it.

I can't cheaply day insure without going down the 'buy a policy and cancel it' route.

You probably don't have the ability but I stick it all on credit card then cancel within the cooling off period. Normally is £25 for just under two weeks.

Alternatively I may have a Renault Megane for free in 3 weeks if you want it

Yep, no credit cards at my disposal.

I don't know anything about Méganes, I know I like 405s which is why I'm interested in this one.

According to Michael it's down the back of the engine block somewhere and could be a hose, but he's not looked at it for a year (been laid up since last MOT).

I'll ask if he can see what it is.

Might possibly need rear lights too (cracked lenses).

Ah.

Then it's most likely the blind plug on that multiple water hose/thermostat block at the back of the engine.

It looks a bit like this:

Wintom-Spainsh-Service-Provide-115375345

So French.

Many pipes and hoses go there and one or more of the connectors are plugged.

It's those plugs that usually fail.

I bought the last ever available genuine plug from Peugeot, so you need to fix this with two inches of hosepipe, an M14 bolt and two jubilee clips.

Or a cork from a bottle of Bordeaux, if you want to keep your French car all French.

That's cheap! I guess it goes something like:

-sleeve hosepipe on connector; add clip #1

-put bolt in hose, use clip #2 to stop bolt from moving
