I must admit I don't so many miles ( in cornwall ) but with running my own business and a 17 month old at home I would rather be with her than farting around with veg oil

I've two small children, time does matter increasingly once you've a family. Half an hour a month is 6 hours a year. £3000 ÷ 6 = £500. That's £ an hour.

Even if I spent half an hour a week messing about, it's still nearly £120 an hour.

But you go to work, lots of which isn't even paid if you work for yourself.

Added to which, saving £3k is the equivalent of earning an extra c£5k, once you've paid taxes and whatnot.

Worst of all, the £3k spent on forecourt fuel is 70% tax. The more you look at it, the more depressing it becomes. (Junkman Ch1 vv5-6)

I think I worked out that for every £100 you spend on petrol or diesel, less than £10 of that is used to make your car move.

I couldn't be bothered to filter my own tbh.

I bet it takes me less time to collect my oil, settle, dry and filter it then fill a car's tank than gathering up scores of plastic bottles at Tesco or Asda, going through the checkout taking each one out of the trolley then back in, then decanting each and every one into the tank. And finally dispose of them all.

Young Reb needs to keep this up to date -I wanna hear how the track rod ends went!

Posted

Track rod ends went as expected, passenger side one no real issue, drivers side one wasn't shifting with any amount of heat and violence. So that's been done as a complete unit.

It got new shoes on Saturday too, which has revealed that it wasn't just tracking that was causing an issue, left hand ball joint is also gubbed. The car's weight shifting causes it to resettle itself, usually propelling the car sideways fairly violently with it. The added weight of a passenger appears to tame this somewhat, shame I don't have any friends.
