Alfa diesels

Has anyone any experience of the Alfa 5 cylinder 2.4 diesel engine as found in the 156? Reviews I've read say it's punchy and economical, but will it go bang or cost a fortune to maintain? Thanks

If it has a cambelt, I wouldn't much like to change it...They sound gorgeous though.** For a diesel...

It's an Alfa. So it will go wrong and probably cost a fortune to fix but is probably worth it  Actually, from what I've heard the diesels are generally ok if looked after.

Isn't that the same engine as in the Marea TD125? If so it's not a bad engine as long as it's been looked after - they're prone to snapping cambelts if neglected.

The 2.4 5 cyl dizzler was used in Fiat Marea's, from what I remember they were pretty good, not so sure on the reliability front, as Fiat sold so few of them, most people went for the cheaper 4 cylinder ones, which were IIRC pretty poor. The 2.4's definatly went well, and had a nice off beat sound to them!Cambelt would be a total bitch on them though I recon.

It's the 5 pot Fiat bottom end, but with a 4 valve head.Providing they have been properly maintained, they're alright.
