S70 2.5 turbo versus V70 2.5 20 valve non turbo.

The 2.5 20v is 170hp or so and the 2.5 20v avec turbo is around 200hp. From memory it's a fairly low pressure turbo and it's designed to give you a bit more surge/torque across the range, a bit like how the 2.0 20v turbo in my S60 replaced the naturally aspirated 2.4 20v 140/170hp engine.

The auto 'box might sap a bit of power so whether it's worth the punt I couldn't tell you. I don't think you can really go wrong with any of the 20v engines, although if you are looking for speeeeeeed then you might as well say goodbye to front tyres and opt for a T5. :-D

Cheers mate. Been looking for a T5, but they're either bolloxed or beyond my price range, hence the 2.5 turbo.

Always liked the look of the S70, so that's a bonus.

Don't take it as gospel - this is all from memory of reading ancient Parkers and research when I was looking at them a long time ago (a 2.0 20v 850 saloon nearly became my fourth car!) Someone here may be along shortly to correct me on a finer point!

The 2.5 turbo seems to be the "giffer" spec performance model - they're incredibly rare in later cars, especially with manual 'boxes. I missed out on a 2.5 turbo V70 (210hp) by half an hour, it was in a proper giffer colour with every box ticked rather than a bit of a thread-bare T5 model.

That S70 is pretty well appointed with all the bells and whistles.

Won't you miss the estate-ness?

Yeah probably mate.

Still debating.

As said though, I do like the look of the saloon.

I have only one car at my winter residence, an 850 saloon, and the saloon-ness is infuriating, especially as half the boot is permanently occupied by LPG gubbins. I so wish I'd gone for the estate instead.

I took a proper roof-rack for it with me last year, so that made it a little bit more useful.
