pompei Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/drivin ... 864847.ece A blanket 50mph limit and average speed cameras Don't get me going - it's too late and I won't sleep with my bile boiling
CortinaDave Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 I know, its completely stupid. the best speed limits are ones that the majority of motorists consider reasonable and therefor stick by.Lowering limits left right and centre to unrealistically low speeds means they get ignored, which is what the government wants so it can make more money from speed cameras.
Conrad D. Conelrad Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 The best compromise between cruising speed and comfort in my car is about 50mph. I'm all for blanket limits and average speed cameras, drag you all down to my level
Mr Lobster Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 A ridiculous idea with far more to do with political correctness and the governments anti car agenda than anything vaguely related to safety.
Father Ted Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Black insulation tape be your friend here. Carefully modify L's to look like E's, 0's to look like 8's and drive however you want down the motorway, remove tape at destination
TheScrapman Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Nah, just media spin again. This is only article I can find that says it 'will happen'. All other articles say it 'may happen'.
FredTransit Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 It's never about the environment or safety, it's about the money.
Guest Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Nah, just media spin again. This is only article I can find that says it 'will happen'. All other articles say it 'may happen'.As above, all I heard is that it was a proposal and I doubt it will get anywhere.I can't even find anything at all on the BBC News, so evidently it isn't being taken that seriously.
pompei Posted March 10, 2009 Author Posted March 10, 2009 Well I really hope so - saw the article at the outlaws' house on Sunday, and it looked pretty authoritative!
