Pierburg parts are easy to get too-

No 30 and 41 are what gives trouble with no choke/choke sticking on.

That's actually refreshing to see, before I made a good one out of 2 old ones for a mate of mine, everywhere I rang for parts laughed, i ended up putting a weber on it 6 months later as the old parts i used failed again, I still class them as bin fodder though

Cheers all, Part stripped the carb and found some perished vac pipe and the bimetallic spring ( part 28 in the diagram) that controls the autochoke coming on and off to be fucked, have asked them for a price. Waxstat and diaphragm appear to be ok. If anyone has one of these carbs in the shed let me know as i'd like to play some more.

I went thru the pooburg 1b3 (think that was its model) on my mk2 polo.vac pipes make a big difference, there is an idle drop valve in the pipe going between the carb itself that gets blocked.the autochoke can be adjusted, and tested, spray it in carb cleaner and it should shrink up,you can put power to it and time how long it takes to fully open, should be a few mins iirc. The mechanism can get gunked up and overpower the spring. The carb flange is the first thing to check, but if you plan on keeping long term find a weber.

I managed to grab a known working Pierburg for £20 off a member of the scirocco register, plenty of new bit's on the carb and comparing it to mine I could see someone had been twiddling screws and it was worn badly, fitted it today and it's and now running very sweetly :-D now begins machine polishing. Cheers for all the opinions and advice people
