Anyone from the Bristol area that knows the local breakers yards?

Trying to locate a breakers yard in the Bristol area that currently has this shite in.  These pics appeared on Facebook but had no success making contact.  There are a number of us Talbot owners on here that would like to strip the Solara for parts or buy it complete.  Looks like a yard that appreciates older stuff.  Any suggestions ?

No idea. But if you find it, keep us updated, as it looks very interesting place to have a gander around!

Hard to tell from the photos, but, at a guess, I'd say it's a yard in Radstock, just off the A367 - called Hallmark Motor Salvage (if Google Street View is reasonably up to date). Was there any mention of how near to/far away from Bristol? Any more info on FaceAche? I tried looking on there but soon tired of it.

I'm only going by the fact the yard looks quite low down and surrounded by trees - which matches the one in Radstock.

I've not been there for years. I bought a mk1 Hiace pop-top from there in the 90s.

Also - purely because of the old P4 in the photo - there's Pylle Motor Spares on the A37 near Street on the Fosse. They used to like their P4s. But I don't think the yard is so closely surrounded by trees as the one in the photos - doesn't seem to fit.

Thanks for the suggestion mouseflakes, will following up tomorrow and report back. No idea how close to Bristol and the original post on Facebook has now been removed.

Yes,  the yard would appear to be  low down with trees and surround by fields, not a lot to go on.......

Another picture which might yield more clues.  A late Solara Rapier which looks to good to be in a yard and needs saving.

Would welcome further possible suggestions of location.

Hmmm, that photo makes it look less likely as the Radstock yard - the land seems to drop away further in the background there. I'll think on about it - would be interested to find out where it is.

Looking at that picture with fields behind, its definitely not one of the ones in the city! Its going to be further out than that. North of Bristol is relatively flat, but South and East of Bristol more hilly. Given the age of cars there, I suspect that its a scrapyard that has been open for a long time. That Golf number plate said last taxed in 1992. Also given that they have old cars that have been sitting a while, it must be a big yard - otherwise they won't get the throughput in part sales to make a living, if such old stuff is sitting around too long.

I've been scouring Google Maps with terrain mode on and with scrapyards showing, to see any possibilities.

This one looks roughly about right terrain wise, but going by their website, it looks like mostly modern stuff - http://www.dunkertondismantlers.co.uk/

^ I was doing the same thing :) sad isn't it? Saw that Dunkerton yard too. The stock list photos shows some older wrecks around the edges of the yard.

It bothers me that all the years I lived there I might have missed what looks like a useful yard.

Cheers SiC, agree with your analysis and did come to the same conclusion that Dunkerton dismantlers could be a potential.  Tried them earlier in the week without any success.  Was hoping that someone might instantly recognise one of the cars from their local friendly yard.  The search goes on.........

Despite being told No on the phone, I will try Dunkerton again tomorrow.  Just looked at the stock pictures as well and as you say there are clearly some interesting vehicles around the edges.  Noted a NSU Prinz in the undergrowth.

Here's a bit of a long shot. As that golf is still coming up on the DVLA system, what about requesting the details on where it was scrapped?

You need to give reasonable cause to why the information, but if you are honest about it, the worst that they can do is say no?

Tried Dunkerton this morning  without any luck.  They suggested Cloud Hill Commercials but already contacted them.  Good idea SiC, but as the Golf is still showing up on the DVLA database, does this  mean it's not been registered scrapped by the yard or last keeper ?

No idea, especially on something thats been sitting around that long. However as they've got it on their system, I'd expect some of address at least against it?

If they get wind at the scrapyard you are an 'enthusiast' the price for the parts might rocket. If you find it, I'd just offer them a price to strip it then leave it with them. Once they've cottoned on its got such a limited market he'll likely snap your hand off. The often bizarre logic they tend to have at the scrapyard near me that closed recent was to guess the price new and then knock 5% off, then several months later bale the lot when there's no takers. What sort of business succeeds on that model.

If you do find it, I'm based in North Bristol so easy enough for me to go investigate it! Just let me know and I'll go on a reckie. :)

Cheers SiC, will take you up on the offer when I finally locate the yard.  I am up in the Highlands of Scotland so need to know what's what before

traveling that kind of distance.

Good point Sierraman.  Would be rather pissed off if I finally locate the car only to find that the price is ridiculous.  Would hope that a yard that keeps a hold of old shite will know that it will be slow moving and not high value.
