One less V70 in the world

Joining the M42 this morning a V70 flashed past at a fair old speed, a couple of seconds later it was broadside on and into the central reservation after narrowly missing another car. I stopped to see if everyone was ok and the driver was obviously in shock as were the couple who had been hit by the debris. Traffic officer turned up and was not the most helpful, he was going to just leave the guy in the car to his own devices despite us saying it was obvious he was in shock. Finally got him to get some medical help up. I left at that point but bloody scary thing to see at close quarters.

Did the right thing there. Stop and check everyone's okay unless it's obvious that proper help is at hand.

It doesn't take much for it to end up like the couple who died in a field by the M9 last year. Three days it took to 'find' them...

It must have been doing a ton, the back end snapped out and it went head on into the barriers taking out about 20metres worth. Front airbags went off and he slid around a couple of times before stopping. It's fooked to be sure but still drove itself onto the hard shoulder and the engine was still running half an hour later despite peeing it's coolant all over the hard shoulder. They guy would not get out despite several requests that he would be safer up the banking. Shock is a weird thing. For a car that had suffered such a smash it was amazing how little damage was done really. For the value of the car it's a write off, but a few hundred quid and a big hammer and it would be useable. Not many cars would be as good I doubt.

Just spoke to guy whose car was damaged as he needed my address for his insurance claim, turns out that a few minutes after I left plod finally turned up and after speaking to the guy driving the Volvo for a couple of minutes he was roughly handcuffed and bundled into the cop car and driven off. When he phoned the Police station on Monday to get some details of the guy he was simply told 'he is still in custody someone will be in touch' and nothing since.
