New shite: Essexmans Old shite... The Soot-o-matic

Well, I picked up essexmans old 760 derv from the 'Volvo entheusiast' The pictures you posted of it, were definitely doing it justice. I managed to get it home from Plymouth with the heater faulty. Arriving back in south wales in a steamed up mouldfest. Shortly after parking up in Taunton for a break and to get the feeling back in my mitts, The headlights had a paddy, refusing to switch on. After selective whacking of various switches, relays, They sprang back into life. NEXT!

I also need to address the fuel tank issue, The cap isn't venting off to atmosphere too...

Recent additions by PO,

Manual boost controller,

TURBO! Gauge

Massive overfuel tinkering, Making it an ideal military smokescreen (Kept the tailgaters off my ass on the motorway)

Missing front carpet- Weight reduction bro!

Penicillin, Lots of it, growing on the nice stapled up headlining, seat backs, carpet, boot trim,

Its own swimming pool in the footwells. I suspect undercarriage rustery.

Stainless powerflow exhaust.

Ear buds,

Old medication,

Screws in the centre console.

BUT!

I have a diesel Volvo again. And its loud and rattly and ratty. Perfect! Thank you to the PO, I am happy with it, despite its condition.

Gauges work, Which is a plus.

So I have a list to do. For a project car, Its a massive list.

Photos,

Heater repair - ongoing

Switch repair

Propshaft overhaul- Nasty vibrations

Repair rotten floorpan,

Fueltank vent

Engine timing/emissions, great but its causing unwanted attention.

Project thread,

Cambelts, From what I hear these are majorly overdue.

Rocker cover gasket- monumental oil leaks.

Carpets in the bathtub,

Rid of mould,

New carpets/interior

Headlining, renewal

Renewal of crusty hoses

Why is this in the Broom cupboard? It's car related so should be on the main page and where's the pictures??

Great, glad to hear the old girl is still around. I must admit having only done a ford NVH engine before I didnt feel brave enough to do the cambelt on The 760. I still miss the truck-like sound of that engine.

Ok, Updates,

With no major piccies yet...

Ive hit a brick wall with the heater, Faultfinding, I came across a capacitor that shit its guts out over the board and corroded a lot of the stuff on there. Replaced that capacitor and the big hoofing power transistor and YES! It worked, all speeds! Then a day later, Its craps out on me.

I pull the board out again and something smells stressed. Power transistors fucked again. The fault codes stored give 'High starting current'

Great. I pull the motor out and get this...

(Image of fanny motor here, coming soon)

Those who cant take the suspense, The motor has a big cowing tide mark on it. Looks like its been flooded out. :-( Shorted turns I suspect. So mr Ebay Volvo breaker Steve Has a new fanny motor on its way to me. A replacement transistor and a few other components for the board.

Next, I have a new timing belt on order, along with a rocker cover gasket.

Timing belt is like this... Time to change it?

Rocker cover is off and getting cleaned up, just for shits and giggles, But all looks good underneath, Lobes are pretty smooth no pits...

On another note, I have started to de-mould the interior carpets, trim bits and the such, Mrs Monkeh is well happy with the parts being washed in the bathtub with Asda's tropical fresh powder...

Even after 2 long soaks and agitating with the dogs rubber brush, the wet n dry still pulls water this colour off...

To finish it off?

Old start-cold start

Good work with the interior! Whilst I had it always remained dry inside, but I think the chap I sold it to put it to heavy use towing and carrying all sorts of stuff.
