My first FTP of 2016

So I have had my first FTP of the year - I went out to my post van, a 2014 Peugeot Partner and the battery is dead after being stood outside my house for 3 days over New Year. This was at 6:30 this morning so I phoned the breakdown line which is run by the RAC who sounds surprised they don't have any patrols in the area when I give them my postcode. I tell them it will be Jims Garage in Lerwick who will have to come out and they tap away on their keyboard and inform me that..........it will be Jims Garage in Lerwick. They should be with you in about 10 mins - er, no they won't it takes 25 mins at least. So I am still waiting at 9:15, still at least I am at home and can browse Autoshite and drink coffee while I am waiting

I can do it in 25 mins in the post van if you take North Isles and not through Brae

I broke down in my lorry on Saturday night.

Had just left Ipswich store. I was on the A12 London bound about 2 miles from the Copdock roundabout.

The low air warning flashed up on my dash.

It turns out I had made a tight turn in the store yard, and unbeknown to me it had damaged my red air line and the nozzle on the trailer.

Got right off the road, brakes then locked on.

Duly phoned the depot with the problem. Got a text from the recovery people that they'd be with me at 00.15. Good.

Then got a phone call from the depot to tell me in fact no-one was coming out to me, because there were no HGV fitters on duty.

To cut a long story short, I got up on the catwalk of the tractor unit and bashed the nozzle until it straightened out a bit. It stemmed the air leak just enough to get me rolling again. Made the journey back to Thurrock on the edge of my seat, expecting the air line to blow at any time.

Got it back though, really pissing air out.

No one at Thurrock even gave me a 'well done' or pat on the back for getting it home. Saved them god knows how many hundreds in recovery fees.
