Shite What U Can Show Up With

Catching up with this thread and I agree that they probably won't give a toss what car you turn up in, they probably won't even look at it, in the same way they're unlikely to get you to turn out your pockets.

Also, I reckon if I was going for a job and they looked down their noses at the car I turned up in I probably wouldn't want to work there anyway.

I get your dilemma.  I sometimes have this with my clients, especially ones in and around the motor industry.  They're liable to be interested in what I drive, it's a natural conversation to have.  Having asked, they then can't help but form an opinion:  in my case what they don't want to be thinking is that I have no money because they're the only ones who've hired me in the last 5 years, that I'm so bloody rich I must be massively overcharging/can't relate to regular people, or that I don't care enough about turning up each day to have something that looks credibly reliable.

What you want, sir, is an XJ-S.  You're welcome to borrow mine if you like.

That's very nice of you - and Mr Breadvan as well, who offered the same earlier. Many thanks!

And yes, in my field of expertise, too, it would be wrong to assume it simply doesn't matter what car you showed up with.

Also, in a reverse logic, I'm unsure if I wanted to work for a company that were this indifferent about cars.

Pretty much all people working in automotive are car nuts at heart, and having appropriate chod is an easy conversation starter.

I arrived at my last job interview (15 years ago) with a slightly shonky Lancia Thema and the ice was broken instantly.

A nice XJ-S would fit the bill quite well, I suppose. So would indeed that Alfa, I think.

I did'nt know it was an automotive type role. I take my suggestion back, needs to be  a Reliant 3 wheeler.
