Looks like A Good Buy. These estate versions make much more sense than the saloons, stylish as the latter may be.

Can't believe it's seven years ago since I had a go in this previous one of yours:

You're aware of the Citroen specialists down near Diss I assume?

I was expecting something mad like a Cat C 407 V6 Coupe with the EML permanently glowing, this is sensible by Wuvvum standards. Surely worth fixing up as these must have bottomed out value wise.

1983 Citroen CX Pallas

Ah yes, that was a lovely car to drive but turned out to be a complete rot-box.  I remember the red MR2 - supercharged, if memory serves?

I am aware of the Citroen specialists near Diss - I almost bought a DS engine from them in 2003 for my first DS, a rather lovely (seized engine aside) Pallas semi-auto saloon.  Then I decided I needed the money for a holiday to California & Mexico and sold it as it was for 500 quid - and thought myself really clever as I'd made a profit.  I was young and stupid...

Just been for a run in the CX and can report that it is indeed quite substantially quicker on petrol than on LPG.  It's still quite adequate on LPG though - just not up to any heavy towing, and overtaking manoeuvres require a bit more forward planning.  The original fuel gauge doesn't work any more - there's now an LED gauge built into the fuel switch, which is about as accurate as the gauge on my old Morris 1000 - slinging it into a right-hand bend gives me a full tank, which then promptly empties as soon as I turn left.

My mate seems willing to do the welding - next task is to get the plastic sill covers off (hopefully in one piece) so the exact extent of the grot is easier to gauge.  Then work out exactly where the LPG pipes run and how to avoid going near them with the welding torch.

The heater really is hopeless and takes forever to start putting out even tepid air - I don't know if the thermostat might be knackered, so that's another thing to look at at some point.  It warmed up quicker yesterday, but that may have been because I got stuck in a traffic jam almost as soon as I set off.

Otherwise I'm quite happy with it.  It's going to cost a bit to get through a test, but I got it cheap so don't mind spending a bit on it - especially as it'll hopefully be a long-term resident.  It's amazing how quickly one gets used to its quirks - after I got home I then jumped in the Swift to nip to Tesco, and almost drove into a wall when I forgot that the brake pedal on normal cars actually requires pushing.

Looks like the interior fabric is made from 1960's city gents.

What do sitrun have against stalk controls?

Good luck with the welding, silicon sealant and underseal not good enough for the French?

I've always steered clear of big cars after the SD1 I bought of me dad nearly bankrupted me.

Top buy Sir!
